Thank to Jaz and NothingButFlowers for taking a look at my cover letter awhile back. I got an interview coming up at the end of November!
I will also be spending about 2 weeks up at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale in a lab that wants to develop neuro technology related things (particularly for brain surgeries - 3D printing blood vessels and augmented reality environments so surgeons can practice, etc).
Two really different opportunities (plus a third with my current PI continuing the work I am doing now as a post-doc). I have a feeling I may have a difficult choice coming up, though I guess it is a good one to have.

It is also a little long (it's a lot long) and I need advice on how to cut it down. I'm applying to SXSW (again...) And because I'm so excited I got a little wordy....

when do you need it? I'm super swamped this week but I'd be glad to take a look over the weekend.

And I have no idea how I got this far in the interview process, getting this would be a huge career jump for me

Oregon would be my 2nd choice if this falls through
I'm just getting frustrated and overwhelmed and tired of a lot of things.
I finished off the paralegal certification program about a year ago, and have been looking for a new job ever since. Most places are asking for experienced people, like 3-5 years. A number of postings even emphasize the fact they want X amount of experience, don't bother applying if you don't have it. I have an internship for one semester, a year ago. The only postings that are lax on the experience, either pay significantly less (like $4-5/hr) than what I am doing now and/or are in parts of law I find repulsive (personal injury or divorce, most notably.) There's no hope for the future, no hope of advancement in my current job, but at least it's paying the bills sufficiently.
I'm losing hope and starting to feel I wasted my time going back to school a few years ago. I'm also wondering if it's even worth it staying in Rhode Island.

Seems like you are going to have to do something that it seems you haven't wanted to do:
1. Take a job that pays less and take the initial hit. 2. Move. 3. Stay miserable in your current job.
I'd recommend 1. You need to get that experience so that you can apply for those jobs that make the same as you make now (or more!). You can only get that experience by taking a pay cut. This seems like one of those one step back to take two steps forward types of deals (wait is that a thing?).

Suck it up and work in an area of law you don't like. That's what I did at first because that's all I had available in the region I wanted to live. Now after a couple years I have been able to move to the area of law that I want. You can't be too picky when you have little to no experience.
I'd recommend personal injury btw. I think you'd enjoy working for a plaintiffs firm, helping to get money out of insurance companies. Don't buy into the stigma - there really are a lot of victims out there that need help. Not all plaintiffs in PI are engaging in insurance fraud.

I hadn't thought of it that way
I was kind of expecting ambulance chasers, where some scummy type looking to make a fast buck and not work files lawsuits.

Those definitely exist. But there are also PI lawyers with integrity. That's why you go on interviews. It's a chance for you to interview the potential employer as well.
Has anyone done, or know of anyone that has done, a programming bootcamp? I've been wanting to get into coding for about the last year, but it's been difficult to imagine going back to school for this. I just learned about these coding bootcamps, and while all of the reviews online are fantastic (obviously they would be), I'm looking for first hand accounts of people that have gone through them.

I know someone who went to Launch Academy, Inc in Boston and has been able to get work in software development ever since. If that school is on your radar, I can put you in touch.

In actually in the Chicago area, but I'd be more than happy to hear about his/her experiences with it. I'm more just wondering about the overall investment of it as a viable career solution.

Do you have other job offers to negotiate with? Do you want to move? Find out about non-salary items that may be negotiable - PTO, retirement, healthcare, moving expenses, work hours. Basically it comes down to how badly you want the job vs. how badly you need the job.

In a bit of an odd situation.
Received an email at 11 yesterday morning from the president of an organization saying he would like to set up an interview and to give him a few times that worked for me this week. I replied within the hour, and still haven't heard back from him (been over 24 hours now). Is there anything I can really do besides wait for a reply? I have his phone number from his email sig, but I hate catching people off guard when making a call about a job or anything business related.

This one I actually feel good about too. Unlike the fall "internship" that i was doing, this organization seems like they have clear goals and projects they have me to work on for this semester. They are a small non profit in Austin called Kids in a New Groove and they provide free music lessons and mentorship to foster kids and other under-privileged Austin youth. Basically like Big, Brother Big, Sister, but with free music lessons involved. I think it sounds like a cool organization and I'm excited to move forward with them. It is unpaid, but its a nonprofit, so being paid wasn't really expected going in. I may still seek out a paid position within marketing for the semester, but for now I'm good with this position that seems like it'll give me some good, useful experience and my part time job at Bed, Bath that basically lets me set my own schedule.
Oh, and part of their fundraising efforts is that they have this program that offers free concerts to members that they totally organize from the booking to stage set up, et all. So even that is pretty relevant to long term dream job goals. So it really is a little bit of every thing here. Yay!

Had a phone interview this morning that I landed through a referral of somebody I worked with a few years ago. It's not scheduled yet but was told I will have a face-to-face interview with the branch manager. Trying not to get too excited, but everything to this point makes it seems promising.

I have the face-to-face interview scheduled for next week. I was told that there is not an immediate opening, but that they bring on people for this entry level position often. The guy also said it's common to have to fill for this position when somebody gets promoted or transfers to another office.
Littled bummed knowing nothing immediate is going to come from this, but it's something.
