My I'm not going but if they get any of these I'll cry list: PJ Harvey Ryan Adams Beck Spiritualized QOTSA Laura Marling Sharon Van Etten
I'd love to see Spiritualized on the farm, preferably for a late night, but I've pretty much given up hope it's ever going to happen. It just doesn't seem like their kind of booking. And even if they did, I'd worry about Jason and Co. attracting much of a crowd. ...
It would be a small crowd similar to Nick Cave. I think it's possible, they will be active this year with a new album.
Now with 2017 on our heels, what Top 20(save headliners)- could you see realistically that would get you excited about the lineup?
Danny Brown, xx, Avalanches, Chance, Lorde, Rae Sremmurd, Jim James or MMJ, American Football, Foxing, Weezer, James Blake, Cage the Elephant, Foals, Catfish & the Bottlemen, Major Lazer, Portugal. the Man, Glass Animals, Frightened Rabbit, Julien Baker, Carseat Headrest
Of course not all of them are top 20 but I'd be pumped to see a good chunk of those names.
U2 - Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Weeknd Chance the Rapper - Lorde - The Lumineers - Major Lazer - Weezer Schoolboy Q - Marshmello - The Head & the Heart - the Avalanches
Would probably be a no for me if I couldn't somehow get a free ticket
Aren't The xx already confirmed? I would also be very surprised if MGMT and Alt J aren't in the top 10.
I think that was from the guy that also said some things about governors ball that are panning out so probably. I'm with you on those other two as well. Alt J dates line up well and they missed them on their last cycle.

I feel like Alt-J don't translate well to outdoor performances. When I saw them at Madison Square Garden I thought they sounded great. Then every festival show I caught them at they were awful.

The painfully boring show I was referring to was at an amphitheater, so that fits your theory. I imagine they would be more enjoyable inside, but I have no interest in seeing them at Roo next summer.

Well, their music also sucks, so that's probably holding them back as well.

Yeah that was me. I'm still assuming they'll be there, haven't heard anything different. What alt-J dates are you referring to? The only ones I see are them in Europe starting 6/20.
I also can't see all of these artists in the top 20: The xx The Lumineers alt-J MGMT The Head and the Heart Young the Giant
Partially because if Roo also got Chance, Major Lazer, and Marshmello, then that's 6 of Hangout's top 15

Well, their music also sucks, so that's probably holding them ack as well.
I thought the Radiohead comparisons that people made when An Awesome Wave came out were completely unwarranted, but I do enjoy that album lots.
The second LP is just a watered down and lazy attempt to mimic the success of the first. That disappointment, combined with what a snoozefest they were live, really turned me off as a fan.

Just meant the dates lineup for them to do American festivals in the spring before heading over to Europe. I would have guessed they would have popped up already on other European festivals in early June if they were doing any.

Second LP had some good ones too. Hunger of the Pine might be my favorite Alt-J song.
In my mind, Alt-J broke up after An Awesome Wave. I don't have to deal with the disappointment that is the second album that way, nor their apparent lack luster live show anymore.

Well, last year Bonnaroo had Ellie Goulding, Haim, Chainsmokers, Jason Isbell, Leon Bridges and Big Grams - that's 6 of Hangout's top 18, so it's not far off.
Edit: put another way, six artists out of Bonnaroo's top 22 in 2016 were in the top 18 of the Hangout that same year.
That's more than I would've guessed, so I guess it is possible. The other part of the point was that those first six I listed all appeal to a similar audience. That also doesn't rule it out, but I'd hope/expect they'd have some more variety.

Did you see this years undercard? I wouldn't expect that much variety

Variety wasn't the problem with that undercard.
The top 20 had: 1 '90s rock band 2 Jam bands 6 Indie/alt bands that are all relatively different 3 Hip-hop artists 3 Pop artists 3 Americana artists 1 R&B singer 1 EDM artist

This is probably a larger factor than the environment of the show
All the same, I've always thought Alt J to be massively overrated. I'll never forget a room of people talking them up like they were the best band around, and all I could do was shrug my shoulders and say 'meh'. I could take them or leave them.

Next time you are in that room you should wear this t shirt.
