It may not be the lineup everyone on here wants but if Bonnaroo was able to book U2, The Weeknd, RHCPs as their top 3, that's a pretty good get overall for them right? I mean U2 alone is a big deal but just in the grand scheme of competing with other concert lineups.
Especially if they had an undercard on par with 15 (14 or 13 would be even better) and the 2nd line was Beck, Chance and some not garbage EDM

Oh yeah, that's a great set of headliners. Hard to see any fest topping that, and I don't even like U2.
I'm still not 100 percent sold on U2 being the last headliner. RHCP and The Weeknd would still move lots of tickets even with another act like Muse. I really wish I would have seen The Cure this past summer.
At this point, U2 is the only "possible" 2017 Roo headliner that would be a really big deal. Much respect to Roo if they could pull it off.
If they screwed it up and didn't get Arcade Fire then they BETTER get U2 to make up for that total whiff.
You do realize that both RHCP and The Weeknd are bigger draws than Arcade Fire, right? I also love AF more than the other two, but facts are facts. I guess you could argue that AF is bigger than The Weeknd in a few markets, but RHCP is unquestionably a bigger "get."
With RHCP and the Weeknd this already looks like a LiveNation action. we'll see who the last artist is but im leaning towards RHCP being a pearl jam slot, weeknd friday slot and we get a legacy act on sunday.

Yeah, I just meant in terms of an act that would be unique. RHCP doesn't seem unique to me. I'm probably also saying that because I've seen them before and thought they were terrible.

New RHCP dates released, locking them in for sure.
How do those dates lock them in?
Also, if it does end up being them, I just got one step closer to being able to skip next year.
I'm not 100% convinced either. They have no Nashville date and a big gap in early June, but their tour his the markets surrounding Bonnaroo pretty hard, with shows in Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Louisville, and Cincinnati. Also based on those dates, it doesn't seem like they're in play for any other festivals in the states, so I would be kind of surprised if Bonnaroo was a U.S. exclusive. I guess they could also play Gov Ball, but they already have 3 nights scheduled at MSG in February.
Edit: Looks like they could be available for Firefly as well.

Nah they toured everywhere for Reflektor, when the new album drops they'll tour everywhere again. Also, they did more North American festivals this past year than either RHCP or The Weeknd.

Why has everyone given up on Metallica? New album, been on the farm before (including Rob just last summer), and most suspect of all: they aren't on the Download lineup.

I'd take them over any of the top three discussed thus far I think.

thanks for the hope.
i'll balance optimism with pessimism, and remind everyone not to give up on Kings of Leon.

Just a heads up: If the Weeknd is playing, he's playing Saturday. Plays in Cincinnati Friday night.
So it's looking like: Friday: RHCP / U2 Saturday: Weeknd Sunday: RHCP / U2
I could still see: Friday: RHCP Saturday: Weeknd/Kings of Leon or Lorde Sunday: U2
And yes, I know everyone thinks Kings of Leon is a headliner, but I'm going to predict Live Nation is gonna spend a lot of money to get tickets back up, and if they were looking for a headliner who could be a 4 that has a good chance of moving tickets and is connected to Roo history and Nashville, Kings of Leon fits perfectly in my mind. Also, we can look at other billings like Firefly, but I would be surprised if any of you actually would book a fest and pick Kings of Leon as one of you're top 3 headliners in 2017.
