Because not enough people are fans of him? And yeah you can throw out the LCD example, but as I've said before, this isn't the year that Roo should be trying to break an artist into the headliner position.
Not sure what else you think they would need to do to be moved up. They sub-headlined last time, won AOTY, and this one seems to be even more popular among casual listeners.
edit: also, maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's essential for them to grab at least one front line artist, especially this year.

I could see this happening, and I'd be happy with it. Drake Friday, Bon Iver/Skrillex Saturday a la Kendrick/Deadmau5, and have RHCP close out the fest on Sunday.

They won Best New Artist, which is vastly different from AOTY. Meghan Trainor is no Taylor Swift. Regardless of Grammys though, I still don't think Bon Iver are popular enough to headline. What I think they would need to do is get more fans. Or prove that they have the draw. Could they sell out an arena show in Nashville if they were doing a national tour? I personally doubt it. Maybe I'm wrong though.

My mistake, I thought they won for BIBI for some reason. Even then, if there's any token indie band that should be bumped next year, it's Bon Iver. And admittedly, I'm not even that big of a fan. Unless they are bound to follow The National path and hit the pre-headliner ceiling. They've surpassed that though imo.

I agree that of any indie act likely to get the bump, they're the top candidate. I also think they've surpassed the National, having invaded the greater musical conversation in a much bigger way than the National have ever done. But can you really picture 50-60k people standing in a field excited for a Bon Iver show? Do they have any songs that people would be waiting the whole festival to hear?

Skinny Love?
Didn't Birdie make that song bigger than Bon Iver did?

When I searched it on Youtube her version came up first
I honestly was never a huge fan of Bon Iver. I heard her version, which made me listen to more of Bon Iver, which made me like them more. But I heard her version first and it got a shit-ton of radio play on sirius.

Bon Iver > Skrillex, now THAT is some good Bonnaroo shit right there. I love insane scheduling like that, wish we could see more of it.

Same here. Heard her first, led to BI. Bon Iver is great, would love to see a Roo set.

would you guys rather get Drake or The Weeknd? I think I'd go with The Weeknd
I think I would also prefer The Weeknd. I'm not a huge fan of either but would probably at least catch some of either. I think I've heard better things about The Weeknd as a performer though.

Drake but that's just personal preference. The music I don't like from Drake, he doesn't really perform. If he does do those songs it'll probably be in a melody of other hits and only 30 seconds of it will be played. The Weeknd is very hit or miss for me. I hate songs like The Hills or Lowlife. Some of those lyrics like "trying to get you out the friend zone" and "when I'm fucked up that's the real me" make me cringe. I guess Drake says similar stuff but for some reason it annoys me less. However I do love songs like Can't Feel My Face
I'd significantly prefer Drake. I've seen him live before and it's not bad, and I'm really just not familiar with any of The Weeknd's solo stuff. I heard the I Can't Feel My Face song a time or two and I've heard him sing some choruses on other people's stuff, but personally I'm surprised he even got to headliner status considering how unfamiliar I am with him.
