It's just whoever is running bonnaroo now and booking acts has totally lost touch with who goes to Bonnaroo. I'm in my mid-20s and there are still plenty of festivals that manage to put together great lineups for me. Big ones, too.
I just don't get how the people now running Roo can look at the 14 years of success they had and not be able to replicate it

I'm 30 so there's a chance I'm turning into Principal Skinner there, but at the same time I thought Coachella's lineup destroyed Bonnaroo's this year. Ditto Shaky Knees, Firefly, and Governor's Ball. Hell even Boston Calling was better IMO and it's like a tenth the size.
Really bizarre to me, what's going on with Bonnaroo right now.

My musical interests have definitely shifted over the past few years, so I recognize that, in general, the large multi-genre festival just isn't going to appeal to me. Regardless of whether this is due to age or changing tastes, it is what it is. I don't like most indie music, I don't like most popular EDM, and I don't really like Radiohead anymore, and there are no headliners I want to see that I haven't seen before. So none of the big festival lineups over the past year or so have really gotten my engines roaring (except Coachella, of course).
I can recognize the above fact while simultaneously stating with absolute objective authority that Borgore is hot smelly seafood dumpster trash.

That's the thing, I'm 26 and technically I shouldn't like going to music festivals anymore but I still do. And now I have a job and making good money, and it's like C3/Livenation/the devil don't want my business anymore. They're still gonna get money from the tweens who's parents are footing the bill for their summer getaway, but they're not going to have my money that's for sure. I think it's just a shift in priority. The people who still love to camp and go to hot ass tennessee for the best music around are still their, I.E. me and most of inforoo who are objectively older and have more money than when we first went, but now they just want to get young people piggy backing on their parents laurels.
All I keep seeing in here and other threads is that these kids are going with their parents paying for it..is this really the case? Are people's parents actually paying for them?? I just feel like there's no way this is happening as widely as it seems to be stated on here..I'm 25 and have been going to festivals since I was 19ish and shows since before then and I just wanted to know if you guys or anyone you know have gone to a festival with that your parents paid for.

As a parent of a now 18 year old, I have paid for him to go to (local) festivals before. Of course I was going to the festival as well, but he is completely uninterested in festivals and I stopped that nonsense. If he was to ask me tomorrow to pay for a trip to bonnaroo or any other festival that involved traveling and boarding expenses there is no way in hell. If it was a local inexpensive festival (i.e. Voodoo, day ticket to Jazzfest, or Buku) I would be more likely to hook him up with that.

The real answer is that it's a lame, knee-jerk way to criticize fans of music you don't like. Maybe there's an element of truth to it, but I remember trustfund kids pulling up the Phish festivals in hummers 15 years ago as well.

From 2000-2004 when I was in college my parents were funding my whole life, so indirectly they paid for me to go to festivals. Roo 03 and 04, Jazzfest (night shows anyway), Coventry, and several other smaller crunchy fests (Odyssey Fest aka Arrest Fest, couple of Harvest Fests, the one in Georgia), and other shows and whatnot.

I didn't have a credit card until 2 years ago. I had a debit card, but still had to drive to the ticketmaster to make things happen. I will admit I had a running tab on my parent's dry erase board. I would borrow money for big ticket items (I think it was a car) and then slowly pay them back. They never wiped it clean unless I paid because they just couldn't afford it. My kid has it made compared to my teenage years.

Ive gotten free tickets the past 4 or 5 years, but I had to buy them the 9 or so before that. I learned early on to buy them off eBay for cheap or I'd just pick one up on the highway on Wednesday or Thursday. I would be lying though if I said my parents didn't facilitate it by paying for most of my stuff while I was in high school and college or loaning me the mini van to drive around the southeast to catch shows.

I mean with payment plans now it baffles me anyone would need their parent to pay for them. In college I held 2 jobs while taking classes full time JUST for beer money and to get all the movie channels on our cable monthly. People just need to be a bit more motivated.

Well, I was talking about $30 for an early 90's Lollapalooza ticket. There were no flights or beer involved. It was always a tank of gas away (gas was under a buck a gallon). I don't remember the being food but there must have been shitty concession stand pizza involved (the only vegetarian option back then).
You'd have to ask my dad if I ever actually paid him fer my second concert ("Weird Al" at the Wisconsin State Fair was free [at least I've never heard my ma mention even an entry fee]). But I feel confident I did as he bought a total of five tickets to the inaugural Family Values Tour. And I think they were GA tickets in an auditorium (GMU's ol' Patriot Center).
I may have gotten a ticket or two as presents over the years, but by and large I have paid fer my tickets and transportation by myself. Got my first job at 15, and eventually was the first of my friends to get a car because I knew my parents would quickly tire of my addiction to live music.
Thank the Flyin' Spaghetti Monster fer the street team tickets over the last several years, otherwise I could never have afforded it.

Our family van was the biggest piece of shit the last, I dunno, half of its 20-year life span. But I'll be damned if it wasn't phenomenal for camping festivals. It could hold EVERYTHING and still have room for all passengers, the roof rack was convenient for trying up flagpoles or the solar shower, it felt pretty inconspicuous on the highway. Sometimes when it was just me I would take all the seats out and just sleep in the back with the doors open.
