U2 post by Bonnaroo on Facebook. I wasn't too thrilled when I heard they would be headlining. But I have since changed my mind, really been getting into them lately.
I guess growing up in the south park era really warped my opinion of them.
Same here...I'm actually really excited to hear "Bullet The Blue Sky" since they're playing Joshua Tree. I have a feeling, for better or worse, it'll be a highly political set.
What's the price of Booking U2 compared to the past few major acts Bonnaroo has gotten? That compared to the undercards of previous years should at least help with expectations a little.
How much more is it to book U2 than say, Macca or Dead and CO?
Id be willing to bet that U2 is the most expensive act they've ever booked. Pretty sure Macca was around 3-4 million.
Has roo ever announced a headliner pre linup drop?
I don't think so, but I also don't think they've ever had a 45% drop in ticket sales, necessitating life-saving measures by LiveNation, before.
makes sence. Also with lack luster response from early clues they feel like some pre hype hype would be agood idea. although we've been aware of U2 for a bit here
Cage the Elephant was an answer to one of the clues this weekend. Bonnaroo and Forecastle usually share at least a few pretty boring acts. As for the Lumineers, they're opening for U2 during pretty much the entire of their U.S. run, including immediately before Bonnaroo. Wiz Khalifa, that's just a very educated guess based upon him being at GB and those C3 interns showing up here a couple months back. Oh, and there was a ton of high-level crossover between Okee and Bonnaroo last year.

I don't see Weezer happening since we are getting Cage the Elephant and PJ Harvey looks pretty likely too, so if those two crossover I think that will be it. I don't see Roo having half of Forecastle's top 6. Wiz seems kinda likely unfortunately.

I think this was probably what they were attempting with Lorde.
I think U2 and Paul are pretty comparable in terms of price tag. Both are easily more expensive than Dead & Co.

Big difference between the Dead billed as The Grateful Dead, and the Dead billed as Dead & Company. The whole Grateful Dead with Trey in the Jerry spot was a huge fucking deal that summer. Dead & Company is just the new incarnation of Furthur sans Phil Lesh and with Mayer in the Jerry spot.

Why do people seem to think that PJ Harvey is likely? If anything I'd say she seems awfully likely for Shaky Knees, and a much better fit there.

Everyone here needs to stop worrying about how much headliners cost. The reasons for lineup decline are not that the good artists are too expensive. There are plenty of shitty, expensive artists and plenty of amazing inexpensive artists.
There's also plenty of expensive acts that are good, and plenty inexpensive acts such as Getter, Borgore, Orwells, NGHTMRE that they are highlighting.....this works both ways. Budget always plays a factor. There was no reason to have that expensive top 3 at Roo last year, and then also get 3 more expensive undercard acts such as Macklemore, Ellie, and J. Cole. The undercard was slim pickens because of that expensive top two lines.

probably trying to keep the momentum up. yesterday parents heard their teenage daughters excited about Lorde. Today teenage daughters get to hear their hip parents excited for U2. Both think the other will like the music, both will shake head and say "you just don't get me"

Still, I have no idea why people keep penciling her in for Bonnaroo.
Obviously can't pencil her in, but I think there's a legitimate chance of her playing. No Nashville date, plus she's playing Forecastle, and the two festivals usually share a couple of acts within the first 2-3 lines of Forecastle. That being said, at this point, she would be a pleasant surprise for 2017.
Can't wait to see how many more people schedule RHCP than U2 on the lineup. Gonna show how awful of a booking it was to get U2. Fuckin get something old that the kids actually like, Stones or Roger Waters at least. Stones seems like they would be least be same price as U2 and a lot better of a choice. Stones - RHCP - The Weeknd - Chance - Lorde would've been the best lineup ever. No one wanted u2 on their phones, why would the youth want them at a major music fest.

Not quite, while they skew older on HL's again if you compare this discography's there's no real comparison. Most people under 30 can't name one Dead & Co song, where as with U2 it's safe to say everyone has heard Beautiful Day, One, Streets, Vertigo, etc. LCD was a great booking, it just wasn't a great booking from Roo. A LOT of people have, and still have, no idea who LCD is. Pearl Jam and RHCP are essentially one in the same,

Only through 19 year old intern leaks, never officially. Sometimes the bigger acts release their tour dates with either a confirmation or a obvious tour gap a week or so before lineup drop.
Also, U2 is a Get, but its also a nationwide tour. At this point they will fluff the VIP & RV #s with comebacks, but I doubt draws in the 30k extra people they are looking for this year to get the #s back.

Yeah, but it's not because LiveNation suddenly ran out of money or anything. It's how they choose to book the lineup; a lot of those profoundly terrible acts probably command a much higher fee than you'd imagine.
Chances are when the higher ups can't decide....they let the kids decide? I mean some of the stuff they're booking this year, clearly shows they're having an identity crisis. I can't imagine Capp dog getting down to Borgore. Or Louis the child? Or vibing to the mediocre sounds of Dua Lipa. I'm just confused and I just want Roo to stand out like before. We all know 2012-2014 were pipe dreams, but 2015 wasn't too shabby, 2016 was a huge dropoff in quality. Prove me wrong on Wed Roo!
