Can't wait to see how many more people schedule RHCP than U2 on the lineup. Gonna show how awful of a booking it was to get U2. Fuckin get something old that the kids actually like, Stones or Roger Waters at least. Stones seems like they would be least be same price as U2 and a lot better of a choice. Stones - RHCP - The Weeknd - Chance - Lorde would've been the best lineup ever. No one wanted u2 on their phones, why would the youth want them at a major music fest.
1) The Stones' asking price is absurd 2) U2 is still one of the biggest bands in the world. They're going to move a boatload of tickets regardless.
Everyone here needs to stop worrying about how much headliners cost. The reasons for lineup decline are not that the good artists are too expensive. There are plenty of shitty, expensive artists and plenty of amazing inexpensive artists.
There's also plenty of expensive acts that are good, and plenty inexpensive acts such as Getter, Borgore, Orwells, NGHTMRE that they are highlighting.....this works both ways. Budget always plays a factor. There was no reason to have that expensive top 3 at Roo last year, and then also get 3 more expensive undercard acts such as Macklemore, Ellie, and J. Cole. The undercard was slim pickens because of that expensive top two lines.
Yeah, but it's not because LiveNation suddenly ran out of money or anything. It's how they choose to book the lineup; a lot of those profoundly terrible acts probably command a much higher fee than you'd imagine.
Chances are when the higher ups can't decide....they let the kids decide? I mean some of the stuff they're booking this year, clearly shows they're having an identity crisis. I can't imagine Capp dog getting down to Borgore. Or Louis the child? Or vibing to the mediocre sounds of Dua Lipa. I'm just confused and I just want Roo to stand out like before. We all know 2012-2014 were pipe dreams, but 2015 wasn't too shabby, 2016 was a huge dropoff in quality. Prove me wrong on Wed Roo!

Yeah I don't view this top 5 being similar to last year at all. The current popularity of the Top 3 is unreal. Everyone my age (25) loves the Chili Peppers as a "throw back" and the Weeknd is the biggest thing on earth right now it seems. Plus U2.
I don't even know another person who listened to LCD before I introduced them.

I don't think a lot of "kids" are going to know even half of Roger Water's catalog compared to U2...

I'd consider myself one of "The Kids" and U2 is in an entire different stratosphere than ROger Waters and The Stones for the majority of 27 and unders. Not everyone has the sophisticated musical taste that everyone of here has, but I bet more than a quarter of these "kids" couldn't even tell you what Roger Waters is from. U2 Will sell more tickets than The Stones and Roger Waters COMBINED at Roo when combining with Chance, Lorde, and RHCP. To say The Stones is something "the kids" like in itself is a stretch, but saying they'd be preferred over U2 is asinine.

I just don't know why Superfly didn't just do what C3 did. Which was take 51%, and 49% to Livenation. That way C3 is still the majority shareholder. Meaning the creative booking still goes to C3, and Livenation primarily handles the budget and gives less influence to the acts they book. I mean I never imagined Grimes to play Lolla. Or Tyler the creator? Since Livenation joined, C3 has stepped out of their comfort zone a little. Now I'm not saying C3 is perfect, G-Eazy, Halsey, most of those Perry's closers, and Bastille put a ding in their lineup for sure. Overall though, C3 has stepped up since getting more money.

And a ton of those tickets are going to be the high markup Day Shuttle passes. Everyone keeps talking about the kids, but there's money to be made from middle aged people with disposable income who are willing to shell out the cash to get a bus ride to Roo and back for the evening to hear U2. When bands regularly charge $300+ for gold circle seating at their arena shows, it's not really that much more of an expense.

Completely disagree. My musical taste is far from sophisticated, but I know kids - actual kids, high school and younger - still listen to plenty of Pink Floyd. Voluntarily, not just when their parents play them. I understand that U2 is a huge get, but from what I've seen, they're wildly unpopular among the younger crowd.
Highschool kids have been listening to Pink Floyd since the dawn of time, or at least since that poster with all the ladies butts with the album art has been around.

I'm curious to see how booking an act like U2 against an undercard that will likely be geared towards the 18-22 demographic will go.
I am interested to see if they learned a lesson from last year. If you book a 1-2 that caters to the 35-50 crowd, will they add SOME undercard geared towards this crowd?
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

One does not simply just go GET Waters and the Stones, "for the kids". The Stones don't owe a life debt to U2.
Most of them will be turned on to U2 by the end of all of this anyways.

You legit have no idea what you're talking about. C3 books Bonnaroo now, and the way they're handling it this year is exactly in line with the type of garbage bookings they make for Lollapalooza.
Had no idea about C3 taking over Roo though.
C3 definitely books some trash because that's what the kids want, but Lolla had a solid lineup overall.
You know, for all Roo's faults, they were the first festival to get Elton, Billy Joel, and now U2. We can debate the quality of those acts, but they were/are all unique gets at the time of booking, and that's pretty cool. Doesn't compete with Coachella's unique first headliners, but it's still cool.
I think I only know about four U2 songs. Vertigo, With or Without You, Beautiful Day, and Sunday Bloody Sunday. I'm sure there are others I might know, but none of those makes me go "Wow, I gotta see that on the Farm!".

Beastie Boys was the biggest "Get" Roo ever had in my time (09 on) IMO.
