It's four days after this year's Roo and already we're discussing Daft Punk and Radiohead being billed together.
Buckle up, folks.
but the cup half full version is we are already four days after this year's Roo and there still hasn't been any ad hominem or threats of violence in the headliner thread.
I keep reading that if Daft Punk were to happen that it would be 2017. Does anyone think it will really actually happen though, or are the mocks with them still pretty tongue in cheek? It's hard to tell anymore haha
It's not likely, but it's not impossible. When they toured in 2006 and 2007, they played a handful of festivals, including Coachella, Summer Sonic, Pukkelpop, and Lollapalooza.
This. Everyone with the "ZOMG Daft Punk Alive 1997, 2007, 2017!!" takes conveniently forgets that the 2007 tour started in April 2006. If Daft Punk plays shows in 2017 its because they decided to play shows in 2017. Nothing more than that.
Also on the subject, Daft Punk played the now defunct AC/Superfly fest Vegoose in 2007, so the relationship is there. Capp Dogg should just try to rebook that entire lineup. Shit was rad.

Don't we usually see like mild rumors trickle here and there if DP is active? I remember tidbits here and there when they were starting to work with people a year before RAM came out. I can't imagine they would be able to keep it THAT secret for forever. and honestly, don't you think it'd make most sense for them to go back to Coachella (where it all really blew up). Where I'm sure they would do everything in their power to lock them down to an exclusive.

The Saturday main stage lineup was...
Lupe Fiasco > Mastodon > Cypress Hill > Queens of the Stone Age > Daft Punk
Just stop speculating it honestly. It will happen when it happens that is one group where you really just don't fuckin' know and it gets pointless to speculate it every year.

I'm sure you're right tbh! I don't really care one way or the other about Daft Punk, their music is just okay for me and although I'm sure the live show would be great and I'd have fun, they aren't on my wishlist. But it's not like I don't want them there either. I mostly want to see them at Roo one year so that the joke will die.

Kinda of with you here. I get everyone wants to fantasize about Daft Punk touring, and honestly they'd probably do Coach before Roo. But if there was even a whisper that they were putting together a stage show i just don't get how it would still be quiet. There were people watching the god damn website script for Radiohead and doing all kinds of insane stuff just to try and see news or start rumors before LP9. I have to think there are a ton more people doing that for Daft Punk, and so far there hasn't been much since RAM. Though i did just see Thomas was doing something for a Stanly Kubrick exhibition.
I really hope they're planning a tour, but not going to get my hopes up until there starts to be some news article's discussing the duo coming together to put together a stage production.
Also i get we all want Gorillaz to play but shame on all of you for not seeing Damon Albarn in 2014. Why would he want to come back, when he basically played a Gorillaz and no one was there. Another act i think would probably do better at Coach and Lolla than on a farm in Tennessee.
Also, can we keep a running tally on how many arguments we have regarding where MMJ and Beck would be billed, because i think that will come up a lot this year.
Guess?
Metallica - Paul Simon - Arcade Fire..... just white enough...

Yeah, I'd take this:
this period where the American festival scene (or maybe just AC/Superfly) was transferring out of just jambands into other genres was such an interesting time. wish I would have been going to festivals then.

I remember desperately trying to talk my friends into going to Vegoose in 2007 because they had to see Daft Punk (and I had to see them again). We were all fresh outta college and pretty broke, but I (correctly) was arguing that it would be the last chance to see Daft Punk while we were young. I still give them shit for refusing to go.
How do you guys feel about The Avalanches playing? Would they headline? With the new album coming out this year, I can see them doing some extensive touring this year/next. Who knows...

Lol. No.
If you would have asked us two years ago "Hey guys, do you think LCD Soundsystem will headline in 2016?" you would have been laughed off the site. Just saying...Nothing is impossible, especially with $$$.

The Avalanches just aren't that big. They would be great in a late night tent though.

What does money have to do with it?? They aren't popular enough, don't have the material to play that length of a set and just...no, they wouldn't be a headliner.
Edit: I also don't think LCD Soundsystem would've been a headliner had they not retired for a few years. But you're also talking about an act that has 740,000 Facebook fans, as compared to 98,000. Lol

Yeahhhh no way do the Avalanches headline. LCD, even with a smaller fanbase than most headliners, has a huge fanbase compared to them. I'm REALLY hoping Roo books the Avalanches though, cos it'd make for a great late night show.

Listening to The Avalanches for the first time (Since I Left You) and I really like this! That's why I love Inforoo, I dont know about half of what gets discussed here and sometimes I end up liking it! Is this their only album?

Yup, they're finally putting out a second album after 15 years in July!
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
I think if one band is poised to make the jump to headliner, it's the Arctic Monkeys.
I don't understand how they were Sunday at 3(?) in 2014 and coheadlined with Eminem at Lolla that same summer.
That 2014 lineup was amazing, to be fair.
On that same note, that Lolla lineup wasn't that good. I still think AM headlines with another album (as would Vampire Weekend, FWIW), but this is still something worth noting.
