So what festival is everyone thinking about doing if Bonnaroo completely blows it next year?
I'd love to do Coachella but it's just at a tough time of year work-wise, especially since I already take a day or two off for jazzfest around that time. Shakey Knees always looks cool and I can drive there, which is a plus. But the festival that really intrigues me is Movement. Electronic music is far and away the most interesting current genre to me and I'd like to explore it further, even if I don't recognize most of the names on last year's lineup, I'm willing to learn.
It's certainly not as unique or important as some American festivals but Shaky Knees is great. It's very well run and has become one of my favorite events of the year. If you like the lineup and can't pull off something more bucket listy then you should definitely check it out.
1. It's weird. 2. It can fulfill the "legend" undercard slot since its old. 3. It would do a better job curating the Superjam than Kamasi Washington did.
It's not the top 6 I'm worried about. They're never gonna have the best top 6 for my taste. I just want them to bring back the random shit other festivals don't get like Bjork, R Kelly, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Kenny Rogers, Nick Cave, Weird Al etc. That's what made Bonnaroo worth doing over the numerous other very similar fests.
All these artists are mainstream AF (except Bjork). They're weird in the sense that few other major festivals book acts like this, despite their popular appeal.
Stuff like Anohni and Dave Harrington are weird in the "avant garde" sense. No one is booking them for the obvious reason that they won't move any tickets.

anohni has been receiving a lot of critical acclaim, although I agree that Dave Harrington would probably never be booked.
Maybe we're all talking about different things. I was still thinking about weird in this context:

What about Jimmy Page?
Tanya Tagaq got all sorts of critical acclaim too and you saw what a hit that was. (I love Anohni, btw)

Does Jeff Lynne count? I'd say Kool & the Gang, but I prefer Chic w/ Nile Rodgers in that spot.

I'll be at Shaky either way, but if Roo bombs (and it'd have to be BAAAAAD), I might give Lolla a shot.

Funny you asked.....I thought Roo bombed this year with the line-up(skipped it...would have been my 10th in a row!!!!) and I'm filling it with Lolla and VooDoo. I'm going to ACL also, but I always do that and Roo.....
If we're talking weird we can't forget when Seasick Steve was there.
I'd love for him to come back. So great live. His last set was hot and sunny but it was nice if you just walked into the pit because the stage blocked the sun for the most part.

If I don't travel abroad to Spain next year and do Primavera and go to Ibiza then I will see you at Movement. I respect your open-ness to learn, that festival is always stacked.
Kinda related, what are some cool weird acts that Bonnaroo could book next year that you would be excited about? Stuff like Atomic Bomb! or Nick Cave.
Portishead, sigur Ros or massive attack.
Am I the only one who just doesn't think Massive Attack is that great? Mezzanine was weak to me. On the other hand Dummy by Portishead is my second or third favorite album ever. I think Sigur Ros could happen next year since Roo apparently almost booked them last year but were out bidded by a European festival. Portishead at any american festival or gig would warrant me traveling there.
