They need to go big on at least one HL next year. so Beyonce is my choice (not what will happen just my vision of where the festival breaks between pop and musical integrity) - with the fucked dream of having Dolly close Sunday. But ANYWAY, I just want to throw in, they clearly aren't willing to pay enough for Fleetwood Mac (or Steely Dan). Florence will have to release a banging album in 2016-2017 to end up as the Fri/Sat HL - and I don't see it happening. I think they should spend the money on Beck and a decent Sunday closer. Though with this years breakdown of acts - I can't tell if they are going to even try to revisit spending that much on HL's. Beck, Beyonce, and Dolly do not come cheap.

Beck was the headliner at a third-tier 4k person fest here in phx (for comparison, passion pit, umphreys McGee, widespread panic, phantogram, avett bros were recent headliners). He can't be that expensive.
Radiohead and/or Beyonce would be a sure bet to sell a lot of tickets.
I fundamentally agree, esp. because in this current climate Radiohead will probably be slightly less than Beyonce. But the real question is who they are trying to be competitive with? Because if they were trying to compete with, say Coachella, they lost out of pure lack of knowledge of the lineup. So are they going to try to "convince" people to come with Beyonce [wildcard, people would not expect it = unique experience] OR solid band that tours enough that it's not as interesting; Radiohead. (or Arcade Fire).
But honestly, after this year, I have no clue what direction they are pointing. so it's almost pointless to have this thread

you can question the numbers, but I don't see how it doesn't just fluctuate another 10-20k depending on concert situations.
Let's assume he wants $80-100k, that still seems really cheap for bonnaroo headliner. It's less than 1/30th of what they were gonna throw at the dead last year.
Edit: not to say Beck couldn't or shouldn't headline. In fact it might be a smart move to free up some cap space for an all star big name.

There's still a very high demand to see Radiohead, haven't most of the festivals they're playing this year sold out? Plus their name recognition is pretty huge so even if you're a casual listener, you'd still be very excited to go check them out. They also have a great history playing the festival, and I feel like they'd be the type of band to bring people back who haven't gone in the past couple years (assuming they don't completely blow it on the undercard). The demand for Radiohead to come back amongst the Bonnaroo community is also insanely high, so I don't think the fact they're not "super rare" would hurt Bonnaroo in any way. I mean in this festival climate, what is really rare anymore?
Beyonce would be perfect because well for one, she's fucking amazing and an incredible performer. She would also fit the pop category that Bonnaroo seems to be leaning towards, but she's definitly the best pop artist they could get. Also who wouldn't enjoy that show? When it comes to headliners (especially when you have them unconflicted) you ideally want something everyone can enjoy, and that's not always easy to get. Everyone would show up for Beyonce. Plus yeah it would be a great wildcard sort of act, and it's not like Beyonce tours festivals regularly. That being said though, this is all fantasy at this point and the chances of this happening seem kind of slim.

Fair. because the say "going price" for Muse was like 750k (I fucking hate Muse for the record) - so in respect, even if they dropped their fee to 400k at his point, it wouldn't challenge a 100k-150k bid. I honestly just have lost concept of who is more in control of booking actions. I can hope they saw that all the numbers (people attending shows) were at the less "pop" acts. Except maybe J.Cole and Macklemore because I wasn't there and have no word on attendance - but other people responded other top line acts kinda just didn't bring the people. Sure, that's *NOT number one on their give-a-fuck list, but it effects the amount of people in Centeroo buying shit to some amount - and also decreased their ticket buys - which is just a blow to their general structure. They bought that farm, they aren't gonna be able to sell that shit easily - they better realize that they need to build/keep their audience. And their audience flocked to Blood Orange - Leon Helms - Dead and Co - LCD - Tyler/Vince - Ween. I think they over estimate what pop audiences do to their ticket buys - ESPECIALLY with so many god damn festivals opening up across the east coast.
EDIT: For the record, as a New Yorker, seeing LCD on the Farm was way more special than seeing them here. Hometown heroes or not, it's just a different kind of show - and they brought it. So that's the kind of thing bonnaroo needs to still lean on; because even if there structural changes save them money - numbers under 60k are always going to hurt them.

Somewhere between reality and my dream, but leaning towards dream:
Friday
Pre - Chance the Rapper What HL - Arcade Fire Which LN - Above & Beyond Tents LN - DJ Shadow, Umphreys McGee, <hip-hop>
Saturday
Pre - Foals What HL - Beyonce Which LN - Eric Prydz Tents LN - Run The Jewels, Savages, Boys Noize
Sunday
Pre - Lana Del Ray What HL - Phish
Switch Chance and Foals. Because Chance into Beyoncé would be incredible for everyone, including Chance. The rest I could very much get behind, although maybe throw in another LN or two each night. Those are probably my ideal headliners if we don't get Roger Waters.
It's fair to assume we get one of these: Muse, Radiohead, RHCP.
Eh, I beg to differ. I doubt they would bring RHCP back so soon, especially after their lackluster show in 2012. And Radiohead tends to shy away from playing festivals on consecutive album cycles. For example, they played Bonnaroo in 2006 (pre-Rainbows) and 2012 (KOL), Coachella in 2004 (Hail to the Thief) and 2012 (KOL), and Lolla in 2008 (Rainbows) and 2016 (A Moon Shaped Pool). Provided they're active next year, Muse is probably the most likely, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take a break after touring heavily in 2015 and 2016.
That being said, my guess is as good as yours. Other than Arcade Fire, I don't feel confident about making any headliner predictions at this point.

I bet they skip hip-hop this year and bring a big classic headliner.
Big jam band (or DMB) on Sunday.
Before I jump on the hip hop thing... why Muse and RHCP, why is that relevant?
Obviously Muse is a big name, they've never played Bonnaroo and they will have barely touched the U.S. (first leg only) by the end of the year. Seems to indicate they will be hitting U.S. festivals next summer, whoring out to the big ones. RHCP feels too obvious...but then again, they'd be a safe bet to move tickets. The same goes for Radiohead.

Why so confident about Arcade Fire? I'm just getting back into the swing of things, so I may have (hopefully) missed something!

Great point. My entire reasoning for putting chance on Friday was so he could get his work over with and enjoy the rest of his weekend. But you make a good case for having him Saturday.

I mean you could also switch Bey and AF, I just really hope if we by some magic get Beyoncé, that her and Chance are paired up.

I figure they're pretty likely since they hit the Euro festival circuit hard on the Reflektor tour. If I recall correctly, the only U.S. festival they played in 2014 was Coachella. With the new album expected to arrive by next spring, I think they'll hit the U.S. festival circuit again in 2017. Last time they did (Suburbs tour), they played all the big U.S. festivals.

Regarding the earlier suggestion of Chemical Brothers: didn't they draw a small crowd last year when they headlined Electric Zoo? Just like with The Prodigy, it's a shame they aren't bigger in the US unlike elsewhere in the world.
Also, we should consider Live Nation's overall strategy for the region. If they can make more money by having an act like Arcade Fire/RHCP do their own arena show in Nashville or some place, it won't be likely that they'll play at Roo.

Pretty sure they played jazz fest 2014 as well. I'm not sure how limited that that touring was. They were everywhere for suburbs.

Smart for Live Nation and the NEW Bonnaroo to book cheap headliners and raise the price of tickets to TAKE YOUR MONEY AND KILL THE VIBEZ

You're right. I forgot about Jazz Fest. They played a ton of shows in 2014, but only two of those were U.S. festivals. They played a bunch of Euro fests between late May and early July, then came back to the states for an amphitheater/arena tour in August.
