what are the chances that muse would be #1 at roo next year if they booked them
Probably slim. I see them as a #2 or #3 headliner. I don't feel strongly about them either way, but for a festival that has previously booked acts like Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Elton John, Muse would be a disappointing #1.

that's what i was thinking, just considering it a possibility since they were just billed #1 at glasto over adele.

Yeah, that surprised me. I know Muse is huge in the UK, but Adele is probably a top 5 artist in the world right now in terms of popularity. All three of her albums have been enormously successful. Plus, she's an extremely rare booking for a festival.

Muse was billed over Adele at Glasto because they played the Friday and Saturday, respectively. Similar to Radiohead getting third billing on the Osheaga poster because they are on the third day.

Lots of optimistic headliner speculation recently, lets talk some worst case scenario headliners.
Clapton - Doubtful this will happen due to his recent health issues, but this would be a super boring set.
Mumford - I feel like there is at least a chance Bonnaroo would bring them back so soon. People love them, but I don't.
Dave - I'm not a DMB guy, but they'd probably be Sunday and I'd just leave.
RHCP - Of course I enjoy a lot of RHCP material but have no desire to see them live now.
Any others? Try and think of the most boring and uninspired, but reasonably probable, headliners you can. I see this as an exercise not in negativity, but in tempering expectations.

No way Bonnaroo brings back Mumford so soon, especially if they have no new material (not counting that EP they just released). That would mean they booked Mumford to headline 3 times in 5 years, which is like WSP level repetitiveness. If they're going to book a repeat headliner, Kings of Leon and The Black Keys make more sense. I know The Killers fall into that "worst case scenario" category for a lot of people here, and they popped up on several lineups this year (Gov Ball, Pemberton, Way Home, and Music Midtown). I guess you can also add Calvin Harris to that list.
Regarding the earlier suggestion of Chemical Brothers: didn't they draw a small crowd last year when they headlined Electric Zoo? Just like with The Prodigy, it's a shame they aren't bigger in the US unlike elsewhere in the world.
Also, we should consider Live Nation's overall strategy for the region. If they can make more money by having an act like Arcade Fire/RHCP do their own arena show in Nashville or some place, it won't be likely that they'll play at Roo.
I heard the same thing about Ultra Japan or something like that. To be fair, Electric Zoo and Ultra are not the type of places for someone like them. Those events are entirely comprised of womp womp mainstream fans. Chemical Brothers are definitely a far different taste than that. I think they'd draw a lot better at traditional festivals than EDM ones.
I think we are most certainly getting (or they will try really hard to get) one of the following: RHCP/Foo Fights/Aerosmith.
RHCP I could see them try to get, although I doubt they'd "try really hard." They're just not an exciting booking and I'd think they'd know that even if they know it will also still sell tickets.
Foo Fighters are on hiatus and I don't see that ending by next June but I could be wrong.
Aerosmith as a headliner would be on par with Billy Joel for one of the lamest bookings ever. To me, they just appeal to the wrong crowd for Bonnaroo. And would look like a sad attempt to follow up Coach's AC/DC and GnR bookings. As a LN Which or something, Aerosmith would be a little easier to stomach, but I just really don't see Roo booking them and hope I'm right.

I know Foo Fighters are currently on hiatus, but I can't think of many other modern/semi-modern (90s onward) rock headliners that Bonnaroo hasn't booked at this point. Plus, I'd take the hiatus thing with a grain of salt. They said the same thing after they wrapped up touring for Wasting Light in fall 2012, but they were playing festivals again by summer 2014.

It does seem like a total Coachella grab to get a band that is on their farewell tour. I don't mind Aerosmith so I wouldn't be upset about it but I would like that money to be put toward other/better acts. I mentioned Foo and RHCP because it just seems to go down the LiveNation road. Agreed on Foo, they will be taking a breather for a bit and dear god I hope not the Peppers. Saw them during the Stadium Arcadium tour and it was the worst concert I've ever been to.

That's sad because I've seen some fantastic videos of them from that era. That's also when I got into them because I'm a youngin'. But they should have broken up when Frusciante left again.
No but I thought MAYBE if too many people started talking about it they would notice and book them. Unrealistic but not impossible
No that's both unrealistic and impossible. Paul Tollett isn't taking cues from the unwashed idiot masses here. To say nothing of the fact that nobody gives two fucks about Aerosmith.
I dunno, maybe Paul T is trying to capture that elusive "third-graders and their moms" demographic.

To be fair, a lot of people care about Aerosmith (they've sold about as many albums as Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones the U.S.). Just no one who would go out of his/her way to see them at a music festival (other than beachbob).
Bonnaroo is going to get Aerosmith. Steve Tyler lives in Nash now and is going all over town pimping himself like a $30 hooker with a meth habit. They won't be able to pass that up.

my friend sent me a snapchat of steven tyler from some nashville art walk and he literally looked like a hooker with a meth habit.
