When I started a book club at my old job, I picked the first book and then, after that one, I drew a name each month for someone to pick the next month's book, taking each person's name out once they had picked a book so that we cycled through as many people as possible. It made for a pretty interesting variety of books that were selected.

This sounds like an excellent idea. It would save us a lot of decision making, since it would clearly take us ages to make a decision, especially considering everyone has an idea of what they'd like to read.

I missed that you threw Brave New World out there. That's a solid start. Otherwise, others have suggested Catch 22, which is easy enough to navigate and get started on. I'll also throw Winesburg, Ohio by sherwood Anderson in the mix.

We've just started! For this book we're gonna see if we can do four chapters in two weeks, and then a week of discussion. We'll check in after a week though to see if this is too ambitious.
