and you're better off with a live bootleg for Pearl Jam in terms of what you'll hear at a show. Infinitely better band live than on album.
This! If you are under 25 you might have no idea the height of PJ's popularity. I'd start with Ten, VS, and Vitalogy as it encompasses the hits of the early days. From there, I'd dig around youtube and watch performances/live recordings. Watch the performance from Pinkpop 92- Eddie Vedder used to be half-monkey!

Chris Stapleton- Traveller Jason Isbell- Southeastern The Wood Brothers- Live Vol. 1: Sky High Sara Watkins- Sun Midnight Sun Steep Canyon Rangers- Rare Bird Alert (with Steve Martin) Sam Bush- Honestly, none of Sam's albums do him justice. You're better off just finding as many live videos you can. Sam has to be seen to be believed.

The only way to crash course PJ would be 2 or 3 bootlegs from the Lighting Bolt tour. I'd recommend Nov 30 2013 Spokane, and Dec 2 2013 Calgary. I was at those 2, I have lots of bootlegs, these 2 were deep sets and long shows, 35 songs each (ish). You can listen to studio albums, but they might not touch that album that night. Besides, who needs to tune up on Alive, Jeremy, daughter, betterman? That being said, Vitalogy is my fave studio album.

For those of you just now giving Pearl Jam a chance, make sure to check out Vitalogy. It's my personal favorite....can't go wrong with Ten either.
As far as Jason Isbell, make sure to listen to more than just Southeastern. When I saw him a few months ago he played a lot of Here We Rest (an album that was made the 400 unit).

As far as Jason Isbell, make sure to listen to more than just Southeastern. When I saw him a few months ago he played a lot of Here We Rest (an album that was made the 400 unit).
Oh, definitely. You'll never get the majority of an Isbell show from one album. He pulls from all of them (including his time in DBT) every show I've seen. But if you need a one album introduction to Isbell as an artist, Southeastern is his masterwork.

Yeah I expected a few of those might be incorrect just because of the minimal research I put into it. I also left off a few electronic acts that have been around for years and clearly have no intention of ever releasing a full album

Ween should be Live at Stubbs. It was 100+ degrees at that show in a dirt lot behind a barbecue joint in Austin and Ween still went hard and long including a 30 minute goddamn encore. Even if you only listen to Buckingham Green, Voodoo Lady, A Tear for Eddie, Captain Fantasy, and LMLYP you should have a good grip on whether you want to see this band live or not.
