I didn't see a specific thread for Superjam speculation/discussion, and I thought we could use a place for it. Believe it, or not, there are some fairly adequate contenders for this year. Feel free to share your opinions on theme, roster, etc.

What exactly do people want John Mayer to do? He is an exceptional guitarist that would definitely add to any superjam but in the past all the ideas about him have revolved around a Grateful Dead themed superjam. Since that is already headlining, what kind of superjam would people want to see him in?

i dont want him in charge. i want him to come out every 2 or 3 songs and fucking shred over whatever style is being played. that's why i have him paired with another guitar player though krasno probably makes more sense than deaner. my mock is really more of an individual artist and band makeup wishlist.
Miguel makes sense since he was rumored/leaked for last year.
Lettuce seems to be an adequate house band and they have prior Superjam experience.
Mayer would be interesting but he seems so obvious that Bonnaroo well definitely fail to make that happen.
I like Grace Potter for this one. She plays with lots of other people and had a decent repertoire of covers from her live shows. I'm assuming that would also mean Matt Burr would be involved, too.
One thing to consider is possible Pearl Jam participation. With no other June tour dates, it is more possible that some of the guys would be open to this, especially McCready. The description that leaked on the app is right up his alley... Kiss, Van Halen, Cheap trick... he loves that stuff
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

I've personally seen Mayer play Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, The Band, Michael Jackson and Prince during his live shows. He'll learn and play anything you ask of him.
I think that those of you expecting a lot of Bowie covers at Bonnaroo might want to lower those expectations. It's five months away and will likely not be as timely as it seems now.
As far as a Bowie Superjam, I wouldn't hold my breath. They tend to not get too creative with these things outside of putting some musicians together. The sets tend to be pretty artist driven.
How many years have people been living for a The Band driven Superjam after Levon died? Plus, they've only done one artist-focused one and he's still alive.
Just my thoughts on it. I'd be fine with being wrong.
A funk or electro-jam superjam would be cool. It could feature The Floozies, Griz, Lettuce, The Knocks, and Papadosio. Maybe bring in Chromeo or STS9 to curate it.
Kamasi Cymande Lettuce Papadosio Les Claypool Con Brio Dungen Vulfpeck
Psychedelic Funk/Jazz Fusion Superjam. Hitting up all the classic funk and jazz from the late 60's to late 70's. Throw in some Herbie Hancock and everyones gonna lose their minds.
Music Midtown: 2011 Bonnaroo: 2012 - 2016 Forecastle: 2013 Rock al Parque: 2014 420 Fest: 2014-2018 Shaky Knees: 2015 - 2019, 2021 Seen tons of local shows since 2004.
Although if last year is an indication they might steal another fest's idea (Catskill Chill had announced Shwikus playing an 80s set before roo came up with the idea)

I hope that they keep it somewhat mysterious like old times. I loved the whole D'Angelo Superjam lead by Questlove and all we really knew was Questlove was involved. Then Quest started slowly introducing the various members of the band "and for the first time on American soil in 13 years..... Ladies and Gentlemen.... D'ANGELO!!!!!!!!!!"
Everything about it was perfect for me. I rolled out of Red Hot Chili Peppers early cause I was bored and wanted nothing to do with being there for that, got a good spot for the Superjam. Got to use the bathroom a few times, got to eat some of them corn cake grilled cheese thinga-ma-bobbers and just rocked the fuck out about 5 people back.

That nearly describes my evening that night. All except the Arepas. Damn... I'm hungry now.
The following year's Superjam was pretty incredible too. R. Kelly and Billy Idol showing up was legendary. I don't think I've danced that much in one night since then.
I would love to see a 80's and 90's one hit wonders sing along for this year's Superjam.
