Hi everyone. I was wondering if some people could give me a bit of advice.... I've never traveled cross country before, I'm coming from Southern Oregon and was wonding how many days I should give myself to get to Bonnaroo? I heard 3-4 days if your driving like non stop to Tennessee, but I don't know. Mapquest says 3 days for 2550 miles.....so any comments you guys have I'm all ears. Thanks

No way I'm taking a plane when I have an opportunity to see america, plus I got alot of stuff to take, I'm meeting up with people there and since I'm driving I get to take their tents/camping stuff (they're flying). Two of us are driving, so what's the legal drive time per person, 12 hrs., so I guess we'll push it to the limit, haha. Thanks for the input.
I have relatives in Astoria, OR, and though I haven't ever driven up to see them, my parents did last summer. Averaging about 8-9 hours a day on the road (no more than that for sure) it took them 4 days to get back to North Alabama, about 3 hours further than Manchester. And not a full 4 days at that. So, if that helps any.....and my dad isn't a slow driver, but I wouldn't say he broke 90 at any point on the trip either... well not often..
I drove from Portland to Nashville three years ago. We took a route through Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky...took my dad and I three FULL days of driving. We drive fast, too.

Definitely atleast a full 3 day trip I believe... I'd give yourself 4 and make hotel reservations in Manchester just in case you make it in 3 days. Then you can just cancel the reservations if it takes you 4
Yeah, from my memory of discussions (I'll see the folks tomorrow) they usually meander up through the north - KS. MO then hit Yellowstone a bit and do some sightseeing etc - got caught in Sturgis during Harly week last year - that was a hoot! They learned when NOT to go....
But on the trip home, quick ways. they seem to bend more towards the south and go more through Cali down towards Ariz and come arcross the mid that way instead of heading back down through Idaho and the rest. End up coming back in through OK and then up through MO and KS and Memphis back in as I remember -not as scenic but quicker I think....
My dad lives in Idaho and makes the trip to NC every year. He's taken the scenic route and the quick route. He takes 4 days to make the trip but he drives slow. I've seen him do it in 3 tho.

Thanks everyone, I've got one more question. Is it o.k to bring propane? ??? If so is there a limit to how many? I was reading something about 'Roo and I saw it said no gas grills, does that mean propane? I don't remember too many gasoline powered grills, haha.

I am going from Utah & haven't bought a plane ticket yet because I'd MUCH rather road trip it & see the sights. Any chance you have room for one & a small bag? I have gas money & a valid license so I could help out!

samanthakay you aren't getting any responses because these posts are from 2007. Fortunately for you I have a large caravan (4-5 cars) driving to Roo from southeast Idaho and I believe one of our mates is driving up from SLC. PM and we can see if we can fit you in one of the cars!
Meh. I've done Colorado to Georgia one stretch both ways, Colorado to South Carolina one stretch both ways. Really depends on your tolerance. From playing poker professionally for 8+ years 24 hours awake really is not that bad.
At MOST 3 days. For sure.
Edit: lol this is from 2007 just see that now.

Last summer I drove from Fort McMurray Alberta, to Hslifax Nova Scotia. (3342 miles) Me and my gf took turns dtiving and never stopped. We made it in 58 hours. I love driving, so I was cool, but my gf was not a happy camper after the first 24 hours. And as far as I know, there's no LAW that says you can't drive your personal vehicle more than X amount of hours, but i personally wouldn't push any more than 13-14 hours. You need some real endurance, and be VERY well rested before you go, and don't rely on caffeine alone. Take some vitamins and drink a ton of water.

That's incredible.
Besides gas and drive-thru of course. I slept for a full 18 hours once we got to Halifax. We spent 4 days driving back. I'll take a 7 hour flight any day!

Still not sure if I know how to operate this site. I sent you a message I think but in case not... when will you be headed to camp? Or planning on arriving there? Pretty awesome you caught my post it'd be. I've to make friends before even arriving since I'm doing it alone this year!
