I think he meant update us on who you have said is not a band. Let's say I asked you if NIN was a band, you said no so I picked Nirvana instead. Then after I've made my pick, you post saying "before jackwagon picked he asked if NIN was an approved band and I rule no" Then everyone knows so everyone can take them off their board, and then in the OP we can have the list of outlawed "bands"

NIN is a band. One of the best live bands (even though it's different members every tour cycle). This is becoming not fun. I think I'm out. Someone should start this over without all of this questions over what constitutes a band.

Primarily it is a Trent Reznor solo project. If he decided to call his band "Trent Reznor" instead of NIN would you still think it's a band?
My rule of thumb has been it's a band if multiple members are writing songs together across multiple albums.
I think it should have more to do with semi-consistent membership over an extended period of time than songwriting credits. There are plenty of bands that have many albums with the same members even though only one of them is credited as a songwriter. Ex: Wilco

Right. I when I said "writing songs" I was more specifically thinking "consistent creative influence by multiple performing members."

haha, yeah. VU was going to be my pick at 19, but I thought you may take Neil out from under me and didn't peg you for a VU fan. Beach boys were third behind VU and NYCH, though only because I like them least of those 3.
