Your setting: Southern California in the mid 70s. A pretty typical place for a music story to begin. A young man begins his music career by breaking out in local radio programs. In 1980 the front man recruits a drummer, Jon, and the two become a duo. This didn't last long. Two years later in '82 they are joined by Steve and Jim, the new bassist and guitarist. Yeah. I think that if all of the other band members went away and he replaced them with different members, nothing would change. When Axl Rose tried that, the results were questionable at best.
I think that there are plenty of solo acts that perform with the same backing band for decades. We just don't notice because they're not the reason we're there.
I'm not protesting your choice, I just disagree that they're a band. I think that they are his backing band. That's my opinion. Horn ruled otherwise.

Have they released a plethora of albums and toured for three decades together? Weird Al and the band have done that for 34 years. I haven't even been alive that long. NIN is the fancy name Trent uses for his solo project because his birth name is somehow worse than that. I don't why I'm trying to argue with someone who childishly backed out of this when he didn't get his way though.

NIN is Trent's band, the lineup constantly changes but it's still a band. I'm not debating your abilty to pick Weird Al as a band. If he's played with the same guys for that long it's definitely a band. I don't think it's childish to quit playing a game because you think the rules are stupid and it could be done way better.

It bothers me that that you were bitching about the draft itself and the only rule that was in place when you joined. If you didn't like it, participation was optional.
