Biography: Jason Isbell began his career in 2001, as the singer-songwriter/guitarist in the seminal alt-country band Drive-By Truckers. He quickly wrote several of the group’s signature songs, including the title cut of its 2003 album, “Decoration Day,” and a beautiful bummer of a tune called “Goddamn Lonely Love.” As Jason found success early in his career, he also found personal problems. His first marriage, to Shonna Tucker, Drive-By Truckers bassist at the time, came unstitched in public. Jason started turning to alcohol and cocaine, as the band toured extensively. In 2007, it was announced that Jason would be leaving the band to work on a solo album titled "Sirens of the Ditch". In 2009, he teamed up with the 400 Unit band, which was primarily made up of musicians from the Muscle Shoals, Alabama-area. Together, they found success in their 2011 album titled "Here We Rest". In 2012, Isbell supported singer-songwriter Ryan Adams on his tour, in which both of the artists played solo-acoustic sets. Before the tour, Isbell's current wife (Shires), manager Traci Thomas, and Ryan Adams, did an intervention and got Isbell treatment at Cumberland Heights in Nashville. Over the past three years, Isbell has worked with producer David Cobb to release two solo albums, Southeastern in 2013 and Something More Than Free in 2015. This past October, Isbell played four consecutive sold-out nights at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
Major Discography
Although he had success with Drive by Truckers & The 400 Unit, Southeastern was undoubtedly Jason Isbell best work yet. The album led to Isbell's clean sweep of the 2014 Americana Music Awards with Album of the Year, while Isbell was named Artist of the Year, and the song "Cover Me Up" was named Song of the Year.

Physical Reaction/Live Show
I would expect an afternoon What Stage set, as he played with The 400 Unit on Which Stage back in 2013. Prepared to be mesmerized by Isbell's vocals, as nothing in the Alternative-Country scene today quite compares.
Personal Notes
I have seen Jason Isbell twice, his Roo 2013 set with The 400 Unit and in Roanoke this past November. As most of you know, Which Stage is a difficult setup for sound, with that said, I enjoyed his 2013 set. I much preferred though his set in Roanoke, as his last two solo albums translates very well for a live show. I know I will be in attendance for his set, as should you.

I'm surprised he isn't doing Dress Blues live. Sirens was more of a rock album. The second album was just a thing of beauty. I still can get chills from it. I wasn't much of a fan of Here We Rest, but Codeine kills live. He has just been one of my favorite artists for around 8 years now. I felt "major discography" should include more than one album. Anyhow, if I felt so strongly, I should have stepped up and claimed him in band a day. See you at the set.
