Hiya!! So, let me start by saying that I am incredibly excited to attend Bonnaroo for the first time this year! I literally can not wait. I have been wanting to go for a few years, but unfortunately I haven't been able to go until now. I am 21 and this will be my first overnight music festival. I heard that it would be much like summer camp for adults squeezed into four days. Personally, it sound like it will be beautifully chaotic! I am hoping to meet others that will be going to The Farm this year (or those of you who may not be able to attend, but might still want to make a friend). I'd like to learn as much as possible from as many of you wonderful people as I can. I have done research so I'm not looking for the "traditional" information...I just want to hear about peoples memories and stories from their experiences at Bonnaroo! I want to see The Farm through your eyes I can't wait to read your replies and again, I can't wait to see you all this year!!

Wow, I wanna know what kinda summer camp you went to! I'm a long-time vet of festies but last year was my first 'Roo. It's nothing like any other fest I've been too, or anywhere else on the planet, for that matter!
There is a palpable cool vibe the minute you get there. You're not a stranger because you suddenly have 80,000 new friends. The music is great, but isn't what makes 'Roo special to me, because you can hear music other places. It's sometimes like a party where people think they're gonna win a prize for being the weirdest in the room! You'll see fashion statements you can only dream of, neat costumes and even women walking around topless. Are you camping on site? Be sure you do because that's half the fun.
Jump around here on Inforoo and you'll fine plenty of good tips and cool stories, and also when you get there you won't really be a newbie because you'll be well-prepared...worked well for me last year
Welcome and hope to meet you there!( ps you are a brave cookie to pop your festival cherry at Bonnaroo! Props to ya!
Your story is similar to mine when I went to my first Roo in '14. Had never been to an overnight fest before, and only had to rely on the hype of others to try and imagine what it would be like.
Roo is going to blow your mind, honestly. I've traveled to many places and seen a lot of neat stuff, but nothing is quite like Bonnaroo. You just have this sense of freedom, happiness, and adventure the whole time. Like the above post, the music is great, but it's only a portion of all the crazy stuff that goes on. I'm trying my best to put it into words, but it's hard. You'll just have to see when you attend.
Some of my favorite music memories from the past two years: Head & the Heart set at the Which (@ sunset) Earth Wind & Fire, got pit and it was a dance party Childish Gambino, pit - was super rowdy and sweaty Mumford and Sons - I love their first two albums so it was just a huge sing-a-long. Plus they brought out a lot of guests Chance the Rapper 2 am tent show - just wow
Non-music memories: Napping under tents waiting for a show Baconland Amish Donuts Late night talks at the campsite Making friends in pit lines
I know you stated you arent looking for regular info, but read up on the noobie boards and make sure you have everything you need as the fest draws closer. Inforoo really helped me be a lot more prepared than I would have been otherwise (even more so than some of my group who had been a few years before me). Cheers!

You're on the right track by joining Inforoo. If you bring the same attitude you have now, you'll have a great time! Glad to see you've already done some research, but be sure to check out the threads pertaining to artists you like and to those you know less of but may be curious about - there are a lot of people here who know their music. And I think you'll be glad later if you check at least skim these threads:
Just poke around on Inforoo, there are active threads for dang near everything, and join in wherever you like.
A random story of mine: I LOVE The Black Keys and have seen them a million times around Akron and Cleveland. They played That Tent my first year, 2010, so I went. The show was electric, and as soon as it was over I hurried over to Which Stage to catch some of The Flaming Lips, who had already been playing for a while. I had been curious about them but hadn't seen them live. They were so freaking incredibly and surprisingly fun that I actually wished I had skipped the end of the Black Keys set, which I never even thought was possible! Even as blown away as I've been by some of my favorite bands, I've found some new favorites by getting to see them when I otherwise never would have. Teh vibez are incredible.
Definitely look at the noobie and camping guides found here on Inforoo. And find Camp Inforoo in Tent Only while you're at Bonnaroo! I've been to several Bonnaroos and a member of these boards for years and I put off finding Camp Inforoo until last year. There's no excuse not to meet these awesome people!
Here's my loose plan for 2016: - Get to Camp Inforoo on Wednesday and pitch my canopy. (Tents are for suckers.) - High five everyone on the way into Centeroo, every time. - Talk to lots of random strangers. - Drink tons of water. - Hit a few afternoon shows and just lay out in the middle of a field staring at the sky, saving up energy for later.
Last year was my first but not my first overnight-er... It was however extremely different than Coachella and LIB.
Make Friends. Do NOT do what others want you to do in lieu of what you wanna do. Eat good food. JR is right... Tents are for suckers. Go see a band you've never heard of... You might fall in love. Check out the SuperJam. Go See at least 1 Comedy set. Stay in touch with your new friends. Come back next year if you enjoy yourself.
JR is right... Tents are for suckers. Go see a band you've never heard of... You might fall in love.
That is all!
"Tents are for suckers"--I have a minivan and with the seats out an aerobed fits perfectly in the back. Makes for great sleeping--waterproof and quieter when it cools off enough to shut the doors.
"Go see a band you've never heard of...You might fall in love" It's easy when you're my age (on the wrong side of 60) because you haven't heard of most of them! But I call the unknown bands "my new favorite band I've never heard of".

One thing I saw through my eyes at Bonnaroo that was really really magical was THE STARS! I had some time at night where I wasn't in a hurry to get to one tent or another and just laid on my back in a field (close to the Comedy Tent) and looked up at the sky. MY GOD despite the massive amounts of light Bonnaroo produces IT WAS FULL OF STARS! It's country dark out there with virtually no city light pollution. If you got a moment chill out and look up!
Definitely agree with doing what you want to do - someone it's great to break off from the pack and just wander around; you never know what you'll find!
Make sure to stay extra hydrated, and take rest when your body tells you that it needs it. Don't burn out on everything in the first two days. It's a marathon, not a race. Soak it all in. Nothing compares to your first Roo.
