Thanks. Also it's about time someone picked up TI.
I wonder if him being really popular gave people worry that they'd be ragged on for making this pick. I think this was an excellent steal.
Paper Trail, Urban Legend, Trap Musick (sp?), King are all good to great. He was on top of the game with Kanye and Wayne in right in the middle of the 00s.

This is how I felt. Everyone on here has too much pride to admit TI is dope

I think that could definitely be part of it. I had considered picking him several times, but he's not one of my favorite rappers and I've learned that when doing this drafts I enjoy it more when I just pick things I like instead of what I think will win.
That being said, I might get ragged on for this pick, but I don't care...

BUT MY BODYYYYY
MY BODYYYYY'S TELLIN' ME YEEEEAAAAAAEEAAAAAAHHHH
R. Kelly.
He may be the self-proclaimed king of R&B, but he definitely has influenced and has been influenced by hip-hop as well. His last few works have been pretty corny, but his earlier work up to including "Chocolate Factory" contain some of my favorite songs. His personal issues aside, R. Kelly has put out some absolutely outstanding music.

I'm not going to rag on you for your pick (dude's got a set of pipes), but I am going to contest whether he counts as hip-hop. I guess you could draw comparisons to D'Angelo, but D'Angelo really rides that R&B/hip-hop line, whereas R. Kelly is more just R&B/pop.

That's fair, and I was half expecting it to be contested so I cleared it with our judge beforehand. My rationale is (and yes I know that some of these points are weaker than others) that he's done full hip-hop albums with Jay-Z, is listed on Billboard as the most successful R&B/Hip-hop artist from 1985-2010 (which is distinct from "Most Successful R&B Artist", for which he is the most successful in history), and he has written his "Trapped in the Closet" saga as a "hip-hopera" (his words). "Hip-hop" is also listed as one of his genres on Wikipedia.

Musical and vocal style
Kelly's music contains strong influences of R&B, soul, gospel and hip-hop.
Some of his more recent work is undeniably hip-hop:
If many people feel strongly about it I can change my pick, but while he does straddle the lines, I consider him to be a hip-hop artist.

Already adjudicated: Due to the Hip-Hopera that is 'Trapped in the Closet' - let alone the Jay-Z x R.Kelly album. Also his beats, are the line of hip hop and jive talking r&b that makes him different from a lot of traditional R&B
