How is it? I’m thinking about trying to make it happen
The joke I’ve heard a million times is “if Coachella and burning man had a kid” it would be lightning in a bottle.
There are 6-7 music stages, with three main stages (lightning, thunder, woogie). They all have a unique style and genre bias.
This fest runs all night. The crowd is comprised of a lot of festival veterans, population cap will be ~25k this year.
Yoga, healthy food options, all the crunchy shit you’d expect from a California festival
Nearly 100% camping. People bring backpacks of beer in from the campsite because there is no security check between camp and stages.
Phase two is yet to come, those acts will take up the side stages.
Have you been out before? The new site is flat and very navigable, and they do a great job with the small art installations and live exhibits.
*its strange that the fest is in Bakersfield, CA but it somehow worked last year. You didn’t feel too close to civilization
Man, that sounds pretty fantastic. And I was wondering about phase two, thinking like wow if it’s the same quality as one that’s insane.
I actually lived in the Frisco area during my middle school days, never been down that way though. How quickly does this sell out, and how do the five days work?

It did not sell out last year, which was fantastic. There was a ton of room at the site. I would expect you will have at least a few more months.
You could fly into any of the smaller LA fairly easily and drive up.
The Do Lab sells four and five day passes, with four day passes being the most popular. There is basically no music on the first day, it’s about setting up camp and attending some of the early talks and activities in the side tents (yoga, knife sharpening classes, magic mushroom talks).
Most of the people pool in with the four day pass, and that’s when the party picks up. The ‘side’ stages come alive at this time. This year a few of the opening Thursday parties include Joe Kay from Soulection(!!!!) and Dessert Hearts.
During the day it’s a bright and family forward festival. At night it transforms quite a bit. One of the funniest parts is how empty all the bar lines are, people are indulging in just about everything outside of alcohol.
During daytime this year I’ll be prioritizing rest by the lake more. By Sunday I was completely gassed, and I only had the four day pass!
Who are some of the names drawing you to the lineup?

The big gets for me are Four Tet, Jon Hopkins, James Blake, DJ Shadow and Nina Kraviz. But I’d also love to see Sylvan Esso, Purity Ring, Lion Babe, Justin Martin and Justin Jay, with more I’d be real down to check out.
I’m also a big desert hearts fan. The quality of electronic acts on this lineup is just excellent

Yep, I’m along the same lines. Thunder and Woogie are my favorite stages. Hoping they make improvement to the main “lightning” stage this year.
