Not sure if this has been previously discussed but it appears Bonnaroo has gotten the message a little bit about the additional parking cost. It appears they have taken to their website to try to explain it a little bit with 3 bullet points. This is something I hadn't seen before despite knowing the additional cost.
WHY IS THERE A NEW CAR CAMPING PASS?
Reason 1: Infrastructural Bonnaroo is a temporary city. Every year almost everything you see on The Farm (tents, lighting, water, electricity, toilets, refrigeration, vendors, etc.) goes up and comes back down. So you're not just paying for the artists and entertainment but also for the basic existence of this amazing place and your living space within it. We are introducing this new Car Camping Pass program in order to help sustain its greatness for years to come.
Reason 2: New Amenities We're working to improve the Bonnaroo experience every year. Not only does the Car Camping Pass allow the festival to continue to be great but we'll be able to add new amenities such as the permanent bathrooms and showers you'll start to see on The Farm in 2016.
Reason 3: Environmental While the two reasons you see above are the primary motivators for this new program, there's a very positive side effect! Everyone will be further encouraged to carpool to save money which helps us be a greener festival and since less space will be taken up by cars that means more carefree frolicking for all.
#2 - We're still payin' fer showers, unlike what is it - Coachella? I think I read they or someone has free showers.
#3 - Nobody is gonna be encouraged all that much to carpool to The Farm when you only get roughly one 10x10 space per car.
Coachella does have free showers but you pay for a camping pass there and the percent of people that actually camp vs hotel is the complete flip of Roo.
Until they make the campsites a decent size, few are going to carpool. Its hard enough to fit 2 people and gear in a car and then 10x10 spot.
The way they parked cars last year gave you more room than in the past. Honestly I think car pooling is only a thing for people driving really far. When I lived in Tennessee we would have one or two people per car and drive in a 15 car caravan and take up half a "block" before groop was a thing.
My group is bringing 3 cars of 3 people. Hopefully we have enough room.
If you all drive in together you'll be fine. It's definitely plenty of space. I am assuming some of those 9 people will be sharing tents (ie. couples or BFFs) that will help. Not sure if you went last year but they totally did it differently (atleast where I was camped). They actually spraypainted lines. Cars on one side, camp sites on the other. Typically I have had to camp behind or in front of my car but this time it was to the side with pretty much a guarantee of the length of your vehicle and a little over 10 feet wide. My suggestion is to leave an extra few inches/feet between each car if possible, also try to shove as many tents/sleeping areas in one car section as possible and use the other 1 1/2 car lengths for party space for activities. It's sort of like bunk beds but horizontal. Don't you want more space for activities?

Thanks for this. I assumed we were fine based on what I have seen at other festivals.
Reason #3 mentions a positive side effect. My guess is less $ in your pocket, the less weight on you while you're standing in line to refill your camel back with shitty water since everyone has to dump theirs out.

Well, maybe when next year's tickets go on-sale AC/Superfly will just add another fee on to include showers.

Not where we were parked - business as usual in Pod 10. We had 5 people in 3 cars though, so it worked fine for us.
It just seems like we're paying considerably more and not getting much back, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here. Considerably more money this year, weak lineup, and little in the way of added amenities. They are clearly double-dipping for showers, if that is what part of the "parking" fee is for. If my parking fee got me a reasonable amount of space I wouldn't complain about it.

It was a lot worse than it has ever been in Pod 9. They made me back and repark when I parked and I ended up so tight that we couldn't fully open our car doors on either side. If it hadn't been for the fact that my neighbor was sleeping in her car and gave us her space in exchange for the use of our shower tent, we would have not had room to put up our sleeping tent. We had 3 people in one car and, even with the extra space felt more cramped than we ever have.
As for the environmental effects, they strike out twice. Not only do you get punished for carpooling by having the same space for 6 people as for 2, but the spaces aren't a standard 10x10, but "the space behind your car", which means if you drive a nice green Fit, you get less camping space than if you drive a Suburban.

Yes I have always felt like more space was needed if you carpool. Maybe that is something they can do in the future. Parking fees are all about extra $ IMO.
In Access last year, they slammed us in together with little extra space. It seems to get smaller and smaller while walking to other pods, I saw people had MUCH more room to camp.
