With the board being a ghost town in here lately, figured I'd try and spark some type of conversation. What is your favorite unique thing about Bonnaroo that sets it apart from all of the other festivals you've attended? Again, please don't use this time to bash the lineup or tell us how you're not attending because Live nation killed the vibezzzzz.
I'd say the thing that sets Roo apart from the other festivals I've attended (Coachella, Lolla, ACL) is the fact that the grounds are open 24hrs and you can usually find music going until 6am in the Xmas Barn/Kalliope. Over the last 3 years walking back to my site at 630am on Sun am has become a tradition, probably one of my fav things of the fest.
Well, what sets it apart from the fests you listed (Loll, Coach, ACL) is the camping. Lolla& ACL dont offer camping at all and a majority Coach attendees find accommodations. So the camping aspect, with minimal true amenities really adds to the over feel of the fest and brings in a sense of community and dedication among attendees that I don't think other festivals have. As a result of that the party can go later and harder (if you want it to) because you don't have to worry about logistics of getting back to wherever it is that you're sleeping.
However, camping isn't unique to Bonnaroo, though they may be the biggest festival that offers it? Idk what the attendance numbers of Sasquatch or some other camping fests look like, and no idea how many people camp for Firefly. But even with Firefly, I imagine that Roo has a different feel.
I always liked that it has longer set times, especially for headliners. It seems to be trending away from that, but the longer sets make it possible to hop around and still catch a good portion of an act. Off the top of my head I've seen about 10 shows that were 3+ hours at roo.
The lasting friendships that are made... So damn cliche but incredibly true. The friends that I made last year in Tent Only, I still talk to this day. We have traveled together since and built upon what Bonnaroo started. I can say with a high level of confidence that I have made some friends for life.
I would agree with everythin' said so far. And especially the new friendships that can be made! I mean sure I've made a bunch here on Inforoo and at Camp Inforoo, but I still keep in touch with neighbors I met in 2008 and 2010!
