so there was a thread on this in 2010, per search, but that's like a statute of limitations.
i want to go super-light, i hate being bogged down with items and junk when i am away, because i feel it takes away from the experience if i'm worrying about this, looking for that, etc.,
so, as of right now:
on me when arriving: wearing white t-shirt, wearing shorts, wearing flip flops
in backpack (regular size jansport):
tent (which is 25" long packed, and will stick out of my bag (i refuse to carry anything in my hands)), 3 white t-shirts, rolled up to save space 1 pair of shorts, rolled up to save space 1 bottle alcohol (jack?) toothbrush toothpaste phone and portable battery charger (only going to use it for a random picture, if even that, but good to have phone for emergency) small bug spray long sleeve thermal for chily night, rolled up to save space small luggage lock to zip the tent up when away (is this necessary, do you think?)
can't think of anything else that i would need
i'll drink water there, i heard they have showers, is this true?
what i'm not bringing:
sleeping bag, because why? i'm just going to crash on the tent floor
can't really think of anything else, how are you guys going minimal? i figure anything else that i might need i'll pick up at the store when i'm there

Sunscreen, 2x the underwear you think you'll need (it will get very nasty halfway through the day), rain poncho, camelback), baby wipes, toilet paper. If you have room, some tarps, ropes, stakes and poles to make some shade. Unless you are planning to wake up at 8 am...then you won't really need the shade.

good call on the sunscreen, while i'm going to come in with a tan and won't bring traditional screen, i'm going to pack a small jar of coconut oil to moisturize before crashing i won't be wearing underwear lol toilet paper i guess i'll just get at the general store there, it takes up a lot of space in the pack tent comes with stakes (i hope) and a rain cover.
no plan on what type of sleep i'll get, what do you usually end up doing?

This is my first Bonnaroo, but I have read that it gets very hot in the tent after 8 am without additional shade. Gotta love that hot TN sun. But a lot of the shows will run into the wee hours, so sleeping in might be difficult if you go to sleep late. There are places in Centeroo where you can take naps in the shade, so that might work for you.
Oh and Gold Bond(they may have it at the general store onsite) to keep the boys from chafing and sticking to your leg, especially given you are going commando.
Don't worry too much about forgetting something. If you need something, there will be tons of people around who would love to share and help out. Most important is tent and clothes.

i guess i'll take a nap whenever and wherever, and sleep whenever,
TN gets pretty hot in summer eh? it's my first time in your state

You know your own skin, but I would reconsider your sunscreen decision. It is hot and that sun feels like it's a foot from your face. If you get sunburned you'll have a real bad time.
I applaud your desire to keep it minimal, but keep it safe too.

Summer temps regularly get into the 90s with high humidity. So it is like being in a steam room at times. Sunscreen, even if you don't feel you need it, is a must. The sun gets more intense the further south you get, and a sunburn would ruin the weekend. I think they will have sunscreen at the general store.
And if you are not accustomed to that kind of heat, having a camelback is nice. The lines at the water stations can get long, so being able to carry 2 L or more on your back is helpful with staying hydrated.
You can find a decent cheap one for under 20 bucks. This one got decent reviews and is 17 bucks. Worst case, buy a couple of big bottles of water at the bus station and keep them in your pack when you are out for the day.
how about showing up with nothing but the clothes on your back? no tent, nothing extra except your id and $?
i'm the type of guy that could pass out on the grass, is a tent required?
something to think about
Not required. I read somewhere here about a guy who showed up in just his undies with id and $. It will most likely rain, so that is the only reason for a tent. A dry place to sleep.

A tent is definitely not needed. I've slept on a cot or on a egg crate on the grass for the past 4 years, but you really do need some sort of shade. The sun can be really brutal. This is coming from a guy who barely ever gets burnt from being in the sun. If an ez up is too much for you I would suggest working on a make shift canopy with a tarp and poles.
I agree with your philosophy of bringing less shit. Seems like every year I bring less stuff than before, but do yourself a favor and bring some shade.
Deodarant is a must unless I overlooked it in this thread. We are talking 90+ degree heat in the South and in a crowd. It will be for you and those around you, too. lol
Ditch the tent and bring a tarp for shade at your site. You will wake up when the sun hits your tent and turns it to an oven. I ditched a tent awhile ago and sleep under an ezup. Shows go until early morning, so being able to sleep last 8am is a necessity.
The grass in the camp grounds is usually a bit long and would be really uncomfortable to sleep on. Plus bugs. And dew. It's literally a farm field. Bring a sleeping mat/cot.
Don't be a dummy, bring sunscreen and a water bottle. Sun and heat related issues are the number one thing the med people deal with every year. Coconut oil won't cut it. You will be in the sun a lot, or you will miss a lot of stuff. Don't get sunburned. or cancer. Drink a lot of water.
Lots of people wear flip flops, but if there is any rain they will be worthless.
Bring enough cash for the food and stuff you need. People at roo can be really helpful and generous, but nobody wants to adopt a Chris mccandless for the weekend.

I think rather than $ you'd need $$$$$. The general store prices are what, 2x - 3x normal everywhere else prices, so it is best used for emergencies and things you forgot rather than as a plan. Sunscreen doesn't take up much room if you bring it, an sunburns suck. My first Roo, we hadn't really thought about shade at camp. We slept like crap and legitimately sleep deprived, I got burned on the first day, and spent way too much money on sunscreen and booze I wished I had carried in.
Do as you wish, it's your party, but Roo weather conforms to three basic patterns: 1. on the warm side and beautiful, 2. way way too hot, humid and sunny, and 3. mud. I'm happy as long as the mud isn't ridiculous, and I bring shade and plenty of sunscreen. You could walk in with only a Speedo and your ID on you, but there are limits to how minimalist you can go at a 4+ day camping festival, which is not a trek through the woods. Where ya from? Driving in? Your snarky posts in the lurker intro thread didn't say much about you.

Yeah, you don't so much sleep in a tent as bake as soon as the sun comes up. And there's a fair chance the grass in Centeroo will all be brown, crunchy, dusty crap by Saturday. I won't compromise on having an E-Z Up for shade, sleeping off the ground (cot), Goldbond Friction Defense, drinking tons of water all day, and applying and reapplying sunscreen regularly. That + pro-style day drinking = good time for me. Anything else is a luxury.
Like it's been previously stated, a tent is not only not necessary, it's not recommended. Bring a small canopy. I'd consider bringing a cot as well, airflow under the body can help you sleep and be rejuvenating.
Here are a couple of my other necessities that might work into your minimalist mentality: Hand Sanitizer Baby Wipes (this is how I shower at Roo, better to smell like a baby's ass than a man's armpit) Deodorant Floss Gold Bond (if you chafe, I don't, but I bring it) Ear plugs and a battery powered fan (if you want to sleep past 7 or 8 AM) Excedrin and Tums (just in case) Tarps or old sheets with zipties (if you want a little privacy around your canopy) Flashlight
This. And water. Despite what you think, bring water. Lots of it unless you plan on buying a bunch. I totally get the minimalist ideas but seriously, shade and water and sunscreen at least.

i guess they don't haha, just that a plain white t is like minimal in its own right :-D
i'll hop in for 7 bucks to wash up that's not terrible.
i've seen plastic bottles of liquor, right?
I've never paid for a shower at Bonnaroo. Last year they went up in price to 10 bucks a pop. Who knows what they will cost this year. What I do for a shower....
Drain my ice chest every morning into one of these bad boys (5 bucks-ish)
Then I pour the water into one of these (10 bucks-ish) and lay it on top of my car or anywhere it will get sun to heat up
I tie the coleman portable shower to my ez-up tent (it comes with a long string attached) and make sure my ez-up walls are secured and down and shower.
Packing wise, this doesn't take up much space. Last year, my neighbors from Texas (5 guys) would bring their water jug over and ask to get some of my ice chest water to shower with, too, once they realized what I was doing with it. I just don't have an extra 40 bucks at Bonnaroo for showering. I'm cheap! lol

I don't use a tent. I do my EZ-up tent and throw my mattress under that. You get a lot more air flow.
If you don't do that, at least bring a tarp or something for some shade. Guys next to us last year didn't know to do shade and I let them borrow one of my extra tarps (I had 2 extra and some other neighbors needed to borrow a tarp as well) and some other neighbors had zip ties and they managed under that all weekend just fine. The sun can be brutal. A tent isn't necessary but shade is!
