I am not usually one to start threads or really post serious things on boards as I believe they should be light-hearted and fun but I am at a crossroads in life, I think... I was just sat down this morning by my boss to be told I am being let go from my current position in 2 weeks. I have nothing lined up and I do not have any prospects for a new job. I am now 30 years old and my biggest concern is "How am I going to make this and Roo work?" I am posting here to ask people with similar interests and values... What would you do? (I already have 2 tickets purchased) Any similar experiences? Advice?
As someone who has experienced both myself and my partner being laid off shortly before Bonnaroo a couple years ago, I will say at the end of the day, it was the best choice for me to cancel my trip altogether. There will be more Bonnaroo's, self-preservation is more important at the end of the day. I know how much it's gonna hurt to not go, you're gonna be depressed, I sure was. Funnel those feelings into motivation to get yourself out there and get hired.

My guy was just let go on Friday. Oilfield issues for him. He went to labor ready and is working some car auction today. Idk if they have something like that where you are, but it you need work and steady money while you look for your dream job, I highly recommend it. He goes in early in the morning, gets sent to a job and then gets paid that night on a credit card. Sometimes the place will even offer a full time position, but it is manual labor.

31 Days BTW guys....
1. Do you have money for rent? Not sure what your housing situation is. 2. Do you have any money in savings?
If you've answered yes to both of those questions, then Bonnaroo is doable. Might be tight, but still doable. I have a ton of ways to cut cost and do Bonnaroo dirt cheap (I never spend 100 bucks at roo) and I'll be more than happy to share what I know with you.
If you've answered no to both of those, you might seriously consider cancelling the trip this year. I know it will suck.
If you are living somewhere rent free, might consider Bonnaroo but definitely discuss with who you're living with and make sure it's okay and that you aren't being a complete asshole.
In the mean time, a part time job is better than nothing. Keeping my fingers crossed everything works out for you!! Let us know what you decide!
On the bright side, this may be the weakest year musically so you may not miss out on a ton.
The flip-side is that you may have a hard time getting ROI due to the seemingly low demand for tickets. (So, you may not save a ton by seeking your ticket.)
In the end, as everyone here has indicated, it depends on your other finances.
It's a tough place to be and I wish you luck in your decision.

Teach me in your ways... I think I can cover with savings and severance.
you heard the man, nerdbyrd ! teach him your ways!
This is the private message that I sent him. It's all kind of basic knowledge and once I started sending it to him, I realized I didn't really have many tips. But here goes...
I do not shower at roo and that cuts about 40-50 bucks right there. I use my ice chest water and a coleman shower thing in my EZ up to shower with. It cost about 15 bucks the first year and after that, it continues to be free. Cheapest way to shower though is definitely babywipes. Buy the off brand though and that will save you some money, too.
I usually try and bring some food to snack on but not real meals. I have some off brand poptarts for breakfast and some crackers or chips to much on at lunch. I spend about 12 bucks inside centeroo a day for dinner. I'm never really hungry during mid-day bc it's so hot but after dancing all day, i will splurge for a real meal. My first year I took bread and ham/cheese loaf and stuff to make peanut butter and jelly. I had another person I was paying for and that is what we ate every day lol I didn't even spend 50 bucks at roo that year.
Don't drink inside centeroo. Fucking expensive as shiz. Cheap beer is acceptable at roo at your campsite.
You can't really skimp on water and gatorade but you can buy the cheapest stuff you can find. Could always water down your gatorade, too, if need be to make it last longer.
My first year I didn't know about taking sand to the beach so I went without. Not sure if you partake, but there were plenty of people who helped me out. Also, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE GROUND. People are known to drop things. I've seen so many pieces of corn scored from the ground it isn't funny. SHARING IS CARING YALL!!!!
In my mind, it seemed like I had a lot more tips, but I guess I dont LOL. All I can really say is network on inforoo. If you do tent only with the inforoo people, you will definitely be taken care of. They are good people.
And you are always more than welcome to come kick it at my campsite. I'm going super broke but will not let someone go without food or water.
Honestly, networking with people on inforoo is the biggest thing you can do, broke or not. We take care of eachother.

Hey ricardo! I don't advise anyone take any advice from me ever. I make really terrible decisions. So this isn't advice. That being said you've already sprung for what I'm assuming is the most expensive part of the trip, the ticket & camping cost. IN 2015 I quit my job because they didn't give me Roo off even though I'd asked a month earlier. It's not the same because being let go from a job you like vs. quitting a job you hate are two very different things and I fucking hated bookit.com. White hot hatred!
I think you should go. Make sure you got rent and car insurance and what nots covered for at least a month. If that's all in place head east (unless you live east of Manchester) and enjoy the fuck out of your self. Leave all that bullshit at the tollbooth and enjoy your weekend! Take it from an old man your 30 and this aint some shit you'll still be regretting into your 40's.
Again I want to advise you I've made disastrous life decisions. Never ever take my advice unless you've thought it through and it seems sound. If I were you and 30 I'd just say fuckit, I think you'll have an amazing weekend and I think shit will get better for you afterwards.
Ill tag along with what Byrd has said on the cheap side. I only eat dinner inside. other than that it is ham sammiches at camp. freeze a case of water to use in your coolers. it will make it so you only have to spend $5 a day on ice or so (depending on $ of coolers). I have two coolers so its basically 2 bags daily except Sunday (wednesday night arrival). if you want gatorade, get some of hte concentrate squirt and put that into water bottles. food and drink from outside is way cheaper than inside.
Good luck man. with that background there is sure to be jobs to be had.

If you have savings for what you need right away then go. You won't get much for your ticket if you sell it so you'd be out that money. Also just keep looking for jobs non stop and the right thing will come. Whenever something like this happens to friends or family it is always the worst part. In the end something better came along and it was for the better! It may not seem like it right now but stay positive and good things will happen!!
As to supplies for Roo I'm sure you have your gear no need to spend money there, reusable containers are great! Like someone said above look on the ground make some friends trust me people will drop things looking to help someone out. Send out good vibes good vibes come back! Just stay positive and it will all workout!
I only now saw this thread. That sucks to hear. Good luck with everything. I've gone uber cheap before, like $100 in supplies and $20 cash on the farm.
If you don't have your grill this year you can use mine.
A gallon of fresh water is $.39 at Walmart. I fill 4 used apple juice jugs for Bonnaroo. Like nerdbyrd said, you won't go hungry at Camp Inforoo.
