Can anyone suggest the best route from Annapolis, MD? We plan on leaving Weds morning and camping/moteling somewhere near-by- then getting up in the morning and going in on Thurs. Any suggestions as to: where to stop and what time to get up and be on the road? Thanks!
Your best bet is to get to I-81 and take that in. Lots of trucks, but it's probably the fastest way and it's pretty scenic too. Once you get to Knoxville you can go I-75 S to I-24 W (through Chattanooga, best way to go if you're going straight to the 'roo site).

Coming from south of Baltimore, we take 495 around to 66 to 81. We leave late Wednesday morning and stop off at a KOA campgrounds just inside Tennessee... can't remember which one. When we pack up and take off Thursday morning, that usually gets us to the Bonnaroo gate (or, rather, the backed-up traffic) around noon. This has worked out for us as a great time to arrive, because we are put only about 5 minutes from Centeroo. So for you I'd suggest just hitching 50 over to 495, then taking the same route down. Good luck!
mind if i ask how much? we are looking for a hotel/motell fo sunday night. might do one in chatanooga at a Belmont or somehting did it last year and it was nice and a nice little continental breakfast to get you going for the drive back Monday.
If you don't want to drive as far on Wednesday, a good halfway point is southwestern Virginia--Roanoke, for example, or farther down in Bristol.
(I'll be headed home that way--I live near Annapolis as well--but I'm going to 'Roo via Kentucky because I can't resist missing the Richard Thompson show there...not a detour I'd recommend to just anyone!)

This is the EXACT route we took in 04. Worked very well. We left around 1:00pm on Wed. and arrived around 1:30 -2:00AM The wait was around 45 minutes and we were in the so-called BFE over the bridge. I didn't think the walk was that bad at all.
This year I am waiting until later in the evening to leave.

Anyone in Annapolis looking to caravan?
we will be leaving wednesday evening after work, maybe 6ish or 7ish. wouldn't mind a caravan, we just let the car tell us where to go.
I'm going to be leaving from the Harbor Center on Rt2 between 5 and 6PM Wed. evening. It will be easy to hop on to Rt 50 from there. You can also get some last minute supplies and snacks from Whole Foods.

i hear you. we had a church meeting tonight and then tomorrow we drop our dog off at my wife's parents to do-sit and sometime between then and now and the shuffle of work we will need to gather clothes and start packing our stuff together.

Yeah, my car is leaving Bel Air around 8 or 9 wednesday morning, and we are going to take 81 as well. There is no f-ing way I woud go around d.c. like mapquest keeps telling me to. Hooray all day roadtrips! We are just planning on doing the poor kid's hotel-Wal-Mart!
I don't think we have a choice...95 to 66 to 81 or go WAY out of our way through Hagerstown. Northern VA during rush hour. Hell, Northern VA anytime. Blech!
