It's a project Sufjan did with Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly. They did a short tour of the songs a few years ago and didn't actually release an album for it but there are live rips of it. Last year Nico said they had recorded it and would release it after Sufjan finished touring C&L, but now that Sufjan is doing this short festival tour I'm hoping it'll get released after that. Also Sufjan has been posting stuff about the universe on his website lately, Sufjan.com
Ahhhh, great! I wonder if it would possibly be booked/billed under a different name if it has all three of them... Have they mentioned touring or is that an assumption people are hoping for because they played it before and they're waiting for him to finish touring before they release it?
Just guessing that if they're really going to release it they would tour again, but who knows sense they all have other projects.
Carrie and Lowell will have been out for over two years by 2017 and in the past he hasn't been the type to tour year after year. Usually it's a few years in between tours.

Well I don't really expect him to play Bonnaroo, but I do think they'll tour Planetarium next year.
That's just how Sufjan rolls. And the brilliance of the Carrie & Lowell tour can attest to this.
Last year people said "Sufjan doesn't play festivals". The man does whatever he wants.
Yet Sufjan did play festivals last year (Eaux Claires, NFF, Lyons Folk, End of the Road). And these were all special niche festivals that provided the perfect environment for his type of show.
This year he's certainly taking a different approach with his hybrid Age of Adz/Carrie & Lowell festival tour, but note how the set has been tailored to these massive majors as well. Sufjan doing crowd participation such as hand claps and telling everybody to MAKE SOME NOIISSSSEEE.
So now lets consider the possibility of Planetarium which appears to be serious business. How would this be suitable/appropriate for festival audiences, who nowadays are much more about the party and their personal brand (i.e., taking cell phone pics to prove how cool they are) rather than the music.

Is there any info out on what sound hell be bringing for Planetarium? Id love a return to Illinoise or Age of Adz, or just more folk. I just want new Sufjan

It's like classical type of music with Sufjan singing so not that similar to any of his other albums.

I haven't listened to everything by Sufjan yet, but I'm really excited to see him on Saturday for the first time. I noticed in his two most recent festival sets he hasn't played Fourth of July, that was my favorite from his most recent album so I really hope he plays it. Kind of bummed I probably won't have the best spot for him, but I'm sure it'll be a great time nonetheless.

What's the setting for the show?
Fourth of July is one of my favorites live that I got to see during his spring 2015 tour. I hope you get to experience it too!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

It'll be at Pitchfork Festival. He has at least an hour and twenty minutes, and I'm not sure how long he had at Boston Calling/Coachella/Sasquatch, but I'm hoping he has time to add it to his set. I watched a video of how he performed it at Coachella and I loved it, though I'm sure an acoustic version would be completely different.

To anyone at the Red Rocks show tonight, say hi to me. I'll be wearing my grey Coachella shirt and blue under armor shorts fuck you, cannot contain my jealousy

That might be the show I'll be most jealous of all year. Red Rocks is incredible and seeing Sufjan there would be a lifetime memory. Anyway, I went deep down a Sufjan hole today and found this amazing song I'd never heard before. I don't think it's on any of his albums:
For the people just getting into him, try dig up his Coachella weekend one performance. It was absolutely perfect.

Sufjan at Red Rocks was incredible! Way up there with one of the best shows I have ever seen, the set list was fantastic and it was a perfect night, with rainbows, a full moon, and lightning in the distance. I also actually got a little emotional when he played Fourth Of July and I was standing there with my mom. Great night!
Assuming Sufjan does tour Planetarium next year, I frankly don't see why he'd choose festivals over civilized seated theaters.
Why the hell would I want to see him at a civilized seated theater? That sounds awful, don't make me have to do that.
I saw him in Indianapolis last year on the C&L tour at a civilized seated theater and I feel confident saying that it's my all time favorite show. It was incredible. I also just saw him at pitchfork a few days ago and it was also incredible. If you can see him at all, there is no bad place to do it. He delivers, plain and simple.

How'd you like the show? I was there too and thought it was incredible. Definitely the best of the weekend. Plus, he did end up playing Fourth of July!
