I'm primarily a runner, so I'm often working out for variable lengths of time and various intensities. Speedwork, 5K, 5 miles, 10K, etc. I like to build my playlists in such a way that they are in groups, usually themed, that I can put in various orders for various kinds of workouts. Ideally, the first and last songs of each module have some element that overlaps with at least one other module.
I'm having a tough time coming up with a good order for some of the new ones I'm working on. I don't use Spotify though, so this might not be as easy as I'd hoped (or that anyone reading this expected)
I also am open to songs that might fit within the modules that I haven't thought of.
The Pop/Indie Rock and Motown/Funk/Glam ones need the most work.
No songs are in any specific order yet.
Key:
() - songs within move as a pack * - likeliest to be replaced
(Beyonce - All Night Beyonce - Freedom) Kendrick Lamar - i Rihanna - Work Future - Move That Dope Kanye West - Black Skinhead Kanye West - Blood on the Leaves Kendrick Lamar - Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe Schoolboy Q - There He Go *Schoolboy Q - Hands on the Wheel Jay-Z & Kanye West - Who Gon Stop Me Beastie Boys - Body Movin' *Kanye West - Heard Em Say (might sub this out for a song from MBDTF) Vince Staples - Jump Off the Roof Kelela - Rewind (OutKast - B.O.B. Janelle Monae - Tightrope) Pusha T - Crutches, Crosses, Caskets Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment - Sunday Candy Run the Jewels - Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)
My thoughts: I feel like I should have some Chance in here beyond Sunday Candy, but Chain Smoker, Favorite Song and Interlude (That's Love) were on the last several playlists I've made, so I'm kind of over those for right now. That Kelela track is amazing but I'm not sure where exactly to put it. Easy connections to pretty much every other module thanks to samples, Yeezus tracks being so heavy, and the presence of several prominent female voices.
Arctic Monkeys - Snap Out Of It *Queens of the Stone Age - Go with the Flow Eagles of Death Metal - I Love You All The Time Dead Weather - I Feel Love (Every Million Miles) The Kills - Nail in My Coffin The Kills - Doing It to Death Joan Jett - Bad Reptuation Titus Andronicus - Dimed Out Bully - Milkman White Lung - Down It Goes Mastodon - Colony of Birchmen Metallica - Battery Mutoid Man - Bridgeburner Baroness - Take My Bones Away Baroness - Shock Me *The Distillers - Drain the Blood *The Distillers - Dismantle Me The Replacements - Alex Chilton
My thoughts: This is a little tricky because it's a little broad. Arctic Monkeys and EODM both connect relatively well to the Indie Rock module. The Replacements could connect to the Motown/Funk/Glam to Prince via Minneapolis. I don't like to have songs in a row by consecutive artists unless there is a reason, so The Kills/Baroness/Distillers songs need to be juggled. Considering adding some Cloud Nothings in here, too.
Motown/Funk/Glam Module (this is basically saxophones and sexy riffs)
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back *Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground *Stevie Wonder - Superstition Prince - Baby I'm a Star Prince - 1999 Prince - Partyup T. Rex - 20th Century Boy David Bowie - Suffragette City David Bowie - Golden Years Destroyer - Dream Lover Destroyer - Times Square Deerhunter - Snakeskin
My thoughts: Prince connects to just about anything. Deerhunter and Destroyer link well to Pop/Indie Rock but fit better in this category, I think. Stevie/Curtis/Jackson 5 connect well to hip-hop. Might add a Michael Jackson tune in here someplace too. This playlist could use some expansion, so suggestions are welcome. Pop/Indie Rock Module
Disclosure - Magnets *Taylor Swift - Shake It Off The New Pornographers - Born with a Sound Islands - The Joke Lake Street Dive - Bad Self Portraits *Chromeo - Jealous (I Ain't with It) Lorde - A World Alone HAIM - Don't Save Me *The New Pornographers - Use It *Dom - Living in America Alabama Shakes - Hang Loose The Mountain Goats - Amy aka Spent Gladiator 1 The Mountain Goats - Blood Capsules The Mountain Goats - The Legend of Chavo Guerrero Courtney Barnett - Elevator Operator TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
My thoughts: This is kind of a hodgepodge. Chromeo/Dom/"Use It" have been in a lot of playlists, so I might take them out in favor of other things. Courtney Barnett could connect well to the heavier female artists from the hard rock list. Islands and TFF could connect to some songs in the M/F/G list. Could connect to the hip-hop lists via Janelle Monae or Kelela or Beyonce. I usually also have a Beatles or Paul McCartney song in this part of a playlist, but I'm not sure which one would work.
