LOL...esteban you make me laugh calling people jerkstores, and f'n this and that. I try to get along with all kinds of folks on the Gulf Coast and yep, there are people who you have to watch out for but, I find they come in all shapes, sizes, colors, beliefs, politics, financial status, etc. The main negatives I hear from my friends and family in the Hangout area are a) timing and they would like to move it b) the spring break crowd that is more drunk, drugged, young girls getting in trouble, and just craziness than an older and more mature crowd, and c) most, if not all, the performers are like "never heard of them". When the oil got to the beach Bon Jovi and Brad Paisley did a couple cheap shows on the beach that went over well. The first couple Hangouts were smaller crowds and were less of a), b), and c). I've talked to city council members and it is kinda, "give em rope" but, I think the pressure to make some significant changes is growing. They don't want to be known as the new spring break or people gone wild destination.
As a fellow Southerner who lives in an island of diversity, I just don’t have time for intolerance. I got enough problems of my own to be hating on others. But yeah, what you have heard are all legit complaints. But there are Bible thumping haters interspersed. I’ll never forget back in the late 90s when we merged with a company in South MS. There was a big company Christmas party many of them were going to come over for and meet us. Their former CEO who was sill employed then told them any of them who came over would be fired. BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE DANCING. I shit you not. I’m like is this the 1860s or the 1990s? Because dancing is clearly a tool of Satan.

C'mon man...late 90's!?...maybe late 70's, early 80's?...even then that sounds out there.
I understand what you are saying about closed or narrow minded people. I have stood up against those people. Fortunately, I have found a whole lot more good people than bad people. I've been going through some tough times with aging parents. The doctors, nurses, and care givers have blown me away with their love and caring. I make it a point to thank every single one of them. I don't see race, creed, etc. I see good people who are willing to go the extra mile for my family.
I attend a small Church. The love for neighbor there is over the top. We find members jobs, we help them out of difficult financial times. We laugh and cry together. We dance, sing, pray, and welcome EVERYBODY to join us. People show up that we have never met before with kids, no job, hungry, no shoes, no coat, no shelter, and we reach in our hearts and pockets to take care of them. I've never seen anyone in there thump their Bibles.
How lucky we are to be able to go to music festivals and have a good time. One of my survey recommendations was to allow disaster and care organizations space for a booth at Hangout to inform people about the opportunities to volunteer and donate to; disaster relief, habitat for humanity, inner city youth mentoring, animal shelters, and other programs. I believe one of the best ways I can make this world better is by setting a good example through service and giving. I hope we will see some of those organizations show up at Hangout.
Yeah Bob, you ain’t the bad guys. People that live their faith vs some judgmental haters are two different things. I have no hate for Christianity and still hold on to it as an important part of life.
Many festivals do exactly what you suggested and try to make the world a better place. ACL had a big hurricane relief area there. I’m always appreciative of those who give of themselves and set a good example like that.
I would be willing to bet bet there are 20-30 bands here we will see at Hangout 2018.
Oh my I love so much about that Innings lineup.
beachbob did you see the Highwater Fest lineup? I think you'd like it. We went last year for the inaugural fest and it was great. Smallish, most of the crowd was 30+, and the venue was sweet. We'd go again if we hadn't seen most of those acts before.
Was Daluna the same kind of setup?...walk out of beachfront condo to beachfront fest?
Pretty much. They had shuttles back to the mainland for free, but they were kind of a cluster****. However, taxi service from Pensacola Beach to downtown was like $9.00. The differences with Deluna were 1) you could go out the gate at the beach and swim outside of the festival and come back in on the side; 2) Pensacola Beach has lots of hotels but far fewer condominiums and is more residential than commercial; 3) you could park along Highway 98 on the beach (Via De Luna or Ft. Pickens Rd.); 4) cops were chill. The way I understood the problem with it was that it was sort of a money grab and they weren't able to sell it like they wanted to except certain days. To this day, I'll never understand 2012 daytime wondering where the **** everyone I knew was and why they weren't there. I think they pulled 10-20k for the headliners that year (Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Zac Brown Band). But a lot of the day shows were walk up to the front. Remembering the good shit from that year's lineup:
Pearl Jam
Foo Fighters
Florence & The Machine
Band of Horses
Jimmy Cliff
Joan Jett (haha, I'm not a fan but it was her birthday so Dave Grohl brought her up on stage the night before)

Yes meraiko , Highwater looks like fun. I have also seen a lot of those bands and recently. If all this Hangout talk is true, I will probably become a Wharf rat and try to do 3-4 short Wharf concert trips annually. I would like to see sparkysarah , thebrewdude, and other folks who live in that area more often and I enjoyed the Sturgill show, Dierks Bentley, Hank Jr, and other Wharf shows. I think Green Day and a few classic rock bands have played there. Nice venue. My friends are going to the casinos on the Gulf for shows and having a good time. I am betting the new development in Foley is putting pressure on Gulf Shores to not compete with those new venues and businesses. I believe they are building an amphitheater there. The strategy is less to be less seasonable like Panama City for spring breakers and more of the year round indoors Wharf-Florabama-Restaurant style entertainment.

I went to Deluna in 2010. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Willie Nelson, 311, Rebelution, Stone Temple Pilots, Michael Franti and Spearhead, New Politics, Honey Island Swamp Band, Paper Tongues, Scratch and Sniff. That 2013 lineup was amazing esteban. Dang. Jimmy Cliff, Wallflowers, Blackberry Smoke, Pearl Jam, Foos, Wow.

...and SW420, and Wanee all that weekend...3 really good, smaller fests.
Merge Innings, SW420, and Wanee and put it on the beach..."jam in the sand". I'm in. If it is not on the beach...I can drive up to Nashville and see just about anybody I want on the cheap, hit the bars, and crash at my son's condo. Keeping my fingers crossed for something good to happen between PCB and Gulf Shores, includes the beach, a condo, and is a smaller SW420/Wanee/Innings vibe festival.

Golden era of festival lineups
Agree! I could only go for one night and had a blast at that Pearl Jam show. We walked up just a few minutes before they started and were pretty close with LOTS of space around us. I hated missing the next day and I remember thinking the same--why wasn't it packed?! And the demographic that was there didn't seem like a typical festival crowd.
My Facebook memory of that show popped up this September: Pearl jam and the moon, live on Pensacola beach...love love love. Closed with Alive into Teenage Wasteland into Yellow Ledbetter into Star Spangled Banner. Epic.
People watching during alt-j opener...quite a cross-section of humanity here. I'm not sure there is a demo not represented...that's a sign of good music i hope...just a random crowd that made a point to get weird on a Wednesday night.

I think Kevin Bacon put an end to all that nonsense.
off to Vegas tomorrow! we initially had a hook up at Omnia with Calvin Harris playing but since his demand is insane the guy we know couldnt even hold onto to the deal for us so we are going to XO (i think) with Dillon Francis playing tomorrow night.

So do we have any idea on atleast one for sure headliner? I feel like at this point we atleast knew Mumford and Sons headlining and The Head and the Heart on the undercard. I know we make a lot but what’s 5 headliners and 5 undercard artist semi realistic y’all would love to see to get y’all there?
For me headliners: 1. Pearl Jam (of course I know I repeat too much) 2. Bruno Mars 3. Gorillaz (only reason they’re not above is I did just see them in Vegas but would be perfect on the beach again for me) 4. Eminem ( I know most people don’t like him in this group I don’t really get because he is one of the best in rap to me hands down and when I saw him at music midtown was great) 5. Artic Monkeys * if they’re gonna bring in a repeat I will say I’ll take Jack White again anytime over most any performer personally he’s always great!
Undercard: 1. Of Monsters and Men 2. Incubus 3. Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats 4. Alt-J 5. Royal Blood

Miss State +14, GTech +3, Auburn +3, Michigan -16.5, and TCU +7. Get rich.
WRT Undercard 1) Alt-J, 2) Lukas Nelson and the Real, 3) Michael Kiwanuka, 4) Nate Ratliffe, 5) Luke Combs....would like to see Sturgill, TTB, OCMS, and Gary Clark Jr again.

Mizzou is on a role...Tennessee really bad and down about 24 starters. I'd give the Vols 11 and take Mizzou. I agree with Miss State at home but, Georgia is really tough and they will want to whoop up on Auburn who has been hit or miss.
The world will be on Georgia, I'll take Auburn. Mizzu should roll but the big number worries me because their defense still isn't very good.
