Don't be forgetting Depeche Mode. Those dates make sense
Me and jabco got about 15-20 minutes at ACL 13 before the outstanding Muse set that Friday. I'd probably like to see a full set. I prefer Echo and the Bunnymen from that era and maybe Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. All the weird depressed kids in America were into DM and Smiths in the late 80s. We were hardcore, so I wasn't understanding that scene much. But I learned to appreciate it later.
Boycott them both. ------------------ I haven't done any analysis lately between same year, year before and year after among live nation fests (Roo, Lola, ACL) and how they relate with Voodoo. If I remember right, Foals, Chainsmokers, Cage, Band of Horses and Bob Moses crossed with ACL last year. That's upper-mid and upper card except Chainsmokers who were near the top. Chainsmokers, Band of Horses and Claypool-Lennon crossed with Roo. I don't recall much of a crossover with Lolla.
What does this mean? Not much. Probably a couple of 2017 acts cross, but not many.
Realistic? Idk. We have about 2 1/2 months until the lineup. Early guesses:
Nine Inch Nails Green Day Major Lazer Big EDM Star DJ though not sure who at this point (won't be mau5, and probably not Gramatik; been since 14 since Skrillex and Pretty Lights played and 13 since Bassnectar). LL Cool J, Wu-Tang Clan or possibly Future as primary rap star. M83 and Big Gigantic
I would love Wu-Tang but what about Tribe Called Quest? They are doing shows.
Tribe seems to be Goldenvoice's golden goose this year, same goes for NIN. I'm guessing they're exclusive gets and probably won't cross over to a C3 production. both would be pretty awesome at Voodoo though.

Trent is home people, so I think he transcends any contract arrangements if they want to play Voodoo. For my value, I just need an average of 3-4 acts per day I want to see, because anything beyond that, those mfrs are paying me.
Father John Misty looks like a lock for this. No New Orleans date on a pretty big tour, and the end of October wide open. Kendrick or Tribe, QOTSA, and Grizzly Bear are my big hopes.
Would Voodoo bring Lorde this year though? She's already playing Jazz Fest and would be kind of an odd fit for a late show. Voodoo likes its more chill shit in the afternoons. There isn't much frame of reference anymore since C3 is only in it 1 year as sole bookers. I'd say less than 10% chance.
I still think Green Day is likely since they did not have a date here. After the collaboration with Bono on the remake of "The Saints Are Comin" they got renewed popularity here. Also Wait Til September Ends was sort of a post-Katrina city anthem (I was in Alabama during September but that's what I've read from music critics). It doesn't make me happy, but I'd see them or split their set if a decent EDM act was opposed. Chance of playing has to be around 65-70%.
Depeche Mode would be cool to see a full set of, and same with A Tribe Called Quest. Jarobi White was in town for Dave Chapelle's Juke Jive, rapped and was great, so I'd like to see that full act. I'd give DM about a 20% chance of playing and A Tribe Called Quest maybe 40%.
I still think Nine Inch Nails will play Voodoo. Their relationship was with Rehage who is no longer involved in the booking and is just a minority shareholder at this point. But the city ties from the years Trent lived here always make their shows special. The 2013 Voodoo set was killer as everyone knows. I could sit through that again even if it was a carbon copy (which it won't be). I'd give odds around 50% they'll play.
Phoenix possibly would subheadline ala Jane's Addiction before Ozzy or Cage the Elephant for Tool. I don't think they will headline though Top 8 seems reasonable. Frank is from here, and C3 proved last year that they aren't afraid of R&B by booking Weeknd. I just hope that if they book Frank that there is a better EDM headliner than Carnage who opposed Weeknd last year. ------------ Gorillaz?
But aren't Phoenix only headlining NA fests? And the fests they are headlining are associated with C3 to some capacity. I'd say this is plausible.
Not if Frank Ocean is a headliner. Your original three are too pop for Voodoo. They will always have some sort of rock band as one of the headliners and none of those fit the bill.
RHCP also played in January and did the JazzFest last year. There is no way they are coming back to NOLA this year.
I'm fine docking them off that list then. I just feel like there needs to be a 4th headliner and I don't know who this Frank O fella is. I don't think four big names is out of the question for voodoo.

Considering they have never had four headliners, I would say it is probably out of the question.

Has VooDoo ever had 4 HL?
More recently they EDM main stage has been included in the headliners, if they are big enough, like Die Antwoord or Deadmau5.
But there is only one main stage now and the EDM tent that would run at the same time. So in theory they could announce 6 headliners (3 rock and 3 EDM), but they have never had that format in the past. Even when they had dueling main stages they didn't announce like that and the fest was bigger then.
It depends on how you look at it. They changed up what they used to do and also place booked acts differently than you'd expect sometimes.
Now it's small stage vs. small stage then Main stage by itself except EDM stage pretty much runs all the time. 2016 had a lot of meat on the bones for the upper-mid and mid-card (Foals, Mutemath, Reignwolf, Rebelution, Excision, Ghost, Claypool Lennon, Puscifer, Anderson.Paak, STS9, Beats) . But previous years were different. If you look at the lineup posters from 15, 14 and 13 - and admittedly it's not the current booking group except 2015 was a joint effort between Rehage and C3 at some level, you get some pretty big names at the top:
2015 - Ozzy & Friends, Florence & The Machine, Zac Brown, Deadmau5, Jack U, Jane's Addiction (was a by-day poster)
2013 - Park Jam, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Kid Rock (!), Calvin Harris, Bassnectar, Maclemore & Ryan Lewis
------------------------------------------
The Who played Jazz Fest a couple of years ago, so I don't think they come back. RHCP did a show in January and could be in play - but probably not this year. NiN and Gorillaz seem like legit options.
