Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Do you have a link to the study you're talking about? Would be an interesting read.
There are a ton, but here's one such study from Cornell; it concluded that, for a small number of players, a number of mafia proportional to the square root of the total number of players gives each group a 50-50 shot, mathematically speaking.
The square root of 11 is 3.31. So we, as a collective, must be absolutely terrible townies.
Caught up on games I missed. Couple reasons the town keeps losing (and no, it is not that the mafia can coordinate and PM):
1 - People know each other in RL and are unwilling to separate the game from reality. You are nice people and in general (with notable exceptions) you are not willing to play the game because subconsciously think there will be blow back from friends. This can be overcome, but in general, it leads to
2 - Over-reliance on voting patterns and previous play. The best players combine both an objective and subjective approach, looking at voting pattern, history, but most importantly, a general "feel". It is what makes SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal a dangerous player. He is difficult to spin because you have to spin him in multiple ways. Once you learn how someone makes their decisions, you can prey on that and target them in multiple ways. Players need to do a better job combining logic and intuition but this requires players to think critically, even when not posting.
3 - The above issues have made people scared to step out of any worn pattern for fear that you will be called out on it. The patterns have become more important than your actual thoughts. This is especially evident on Day 1, which is referred to multiple times as a lost day because you don't "know" anything. You don't know anything because very little of substance is actually posted. Once day 2 commences, it is amazing how many posts there are where someone says "I thought this Day 1 and it was confirmed overnight". If 6 people have the same thought in thread earlier in the day, Day 1 is not a lost day.
Interestingly, if you plug the math, the 60% WR for the mafia matches up almost on the money with the Cornell study formulas for a 9 player, 3 mafia game.
If you go farther back, you will see the mafia did not always have the same degree of success on Inforoo, and there was a time when the town has a similarly lopsided run of success. This is a relatively new trend, and I think the above are some of the reasons why.
The mafia won a few games where they should not have recently. Town had them, but the above let them walk.
As a final note, i sincerely apologize for leaving suddenly in 95. Something came up and I had to go abroad suddenly on a work issue. Playing would have been nearly impossible, so I cut it clean. Sorry LD and Dan808.
Town pretty much lost a game because of the "SFA is terrifying" thing.
So, yeah. I'd say I agree.
SFA is not terrifying. He is formidable because of the reasons I referenced and he pays attention. Just like every other player, he can be spun. There is a game in the late 50s or early 60s where he got used bad. But it is a lot harder to do. LD is also scary when he is engaged. His intuition is really good. (again, when he is paying attention). Its just that he has a history of questionable methods.

I fucked the game up before you left anyway lol.
It happens. I thought we could pull it out, but c'est la vie. Just a game bud. Sorry again.
JR is an amazing human and messaged me an update to this. Been meaning to get to updating this for a bit. And potentpotables I believe you had done similar recently and I never responded or thanked you. You are an amazing human also. Been kinda crazy in my world lately, sorry everyone. Will update the OP now.
Fun fact: out of the 11 times I've been Mafia, I've been the given name in six of them. Five of those times occurred within the past six times I've been Mafia.
Not I. I don’t understand the game enough to play. Haha. Cap'n Mac has a very full workload this semester, but he’s free to play. Idk why he stopped.
TBH, I just don't enjoy Mafia like I used to. Y'all take this shit waaaayyy too seriously these days. I thought maybe if I had a role I would enjoy it more, but then I was mafia in a couple games and inspector in another, and I still didn't like it.
That said, if the right crew was playing and I didn't have anything important going on for the next few weeks, I might be suckered into another game at some point.
