Crowds at Boston Calling are hit-or-miss; I've had to deal with that behavior there as well. Alt-J and Father John Misty in Fall 2015 were particularly horrendous (which I would both classify in a similar category as Bon Iver).
That said, like with any other festival, if you line up long enough in advance for a good spot, you're more apt to be surrounded with like-minded people.
Bjork is a headliner, they're not taking any risks by booking her.
But her music is not that appropriate for festivals anymore... Govball was a flop.
That aside, excepting Missy Elliott (who has a shitty live reputation), this lineup is excellent.
Gov Ball and FYF are two completely different festivals. FYF had Morrissey headline only two years ago - an act that's perfect for FYF and terrible for Gov Ball. She will be fine.
The venue was small enough that people were able to shame each other into shutting up. I really can't imagine seeing a show like that at a festival where ppl have been partying all day... But I am trying to make it up to Boston Calling so I guess I'll find out.
I have a feeling this is going to be the issue with Frank Ocean this summer. I can't see people maintaining their attention during the Blonde material.

Morrissey has a big latin american following. LA has a big latin american population. He is a bigger draw in that market.
Never been to FYF. Is the crowd really that much different? I feel like all fests have become hemogenized and more or less draw the same kinds of ppl.

if MIA LA still existed and the kids were able to get their late summer fest experience in with that and major lazer, then the crowds at FYF would be perfect.

Honestly, FYF crowds are actually pretty great. Tends to skew older and more music fans vs. drunken college kids ready to party. Last year you could hear a pin drop during Julien Baker's set, crowd was very into it during Grace Jones, I was far in the back for Kendrick/LCD and people still going wild and paying attention super far back, etc.
When you completely avoid big room EDM type acts, you still tend to get a pretty respectful crowd. It's not perfect, but never had a problem.

Which is why I said he is perfect for FYF.
What does that have to do with Bjork being a better fit for FYF? The same can't be said for her. If anything I think she is a bigger draw in NY given the art scene. She played Gov Ball to cap off her exhibition at the MoMA that year.

probably because Gov Ball is known for being full of NYC hipster teens and FYF is known for LA hipster adults.
I don't know why you need someone to spell it out for you.

The aforementioned asshole offenders at GovBall during Bjork were adults though. All the youngins were having dinner and lining up for Flume.

The point is they have two different audiences. One festival has, at least for the past five to six years, not only booked acts like Bjork but also complimentary artists. The other put up Bjork as a sub for Deadmau5.

The comparison to the Morrissey booking makes no sense. Never been to FYF so I can't say anything for the type of crowd it draws. But I am pretty positive Bjork is a bigger draw in NYC. They booked her against Flume to weed out the youngins that year too. I thought the show was great.
Don't mind you jumping into the conversation, but it would sure be nice if you chose to not do it condescendingly.

Gov Ball books conflicting set times. She played opposite Flume. The expectation was the Flume crowd would gravitate to Deadmau5 after, and the Bjork crowd would head to Ryan Adams.

and Morissey played again D'Angelo, FKA Twigs and Thee Oh Sees.
They had no one weeding out the kids. I'm pretty sure that was their point.
Some artists or festivals tend to attract more of these types of people than others, usually correlated to the factors I mentioned before, as well as the amount of disposable income in any given market. So no, not all crowds are equal.

That's not the point. The point is FYF not only books larger acts like Bjork, but also fills their lineup with acts that someone who likes Bjork would also probably enjoy.
I'm gonna go on the record and say if they assumed Bjork and Ryan Adams have a lot of overlap fan-wise then they're not incredibly bright.

I think both Bjork and Ryan Adams appeal to a more mature music fan and there is over lap. But agree to disagree.
I think the disconnect is that Gov Ball is a 50k person festival so they have to book stuff like deadmau5 or marshmello to appeal to a wider audience. While FYF is roughly half that size and can make a go of it appealing to a smaller specfic audience. Maybe that does make for a more tolerable crowd too. Never been, wouldn't know. I'll take your word for it.
Anyway, this is happening the week I come back from Europe. Would be so dope if I just flew into LA and then drove back to Colorado with some friends so I'm gonna need to figure out how to convince some friends to go to this.

I'm not blasting Gov Ball for booking acts like that, its fine and understandable. I've been going for at least a day since 2014 and generally have a pretty good time. The original post was comparing FYF booking Bjork to Gov Ball booking Bjork which, like you said, is a different ballpark considering the capacity, location, and general bookig history of both fests. I think its great Gov Ball booked Bjork, but I don't think anyone needs to worry about her drawing a small crowd at FYF based on her crowd at Gov Ball (basically the original post I responded to).
Anyway, let's just get this lineup ouuuuuut. I want to see that glorious poster.
