Also, Jones is 9-12 in one possession games and 14-19 in SEC games.
That was it. So 10 yr not 20, but damn. By my count Clemson is 12-4 during that time. 3 losses to top 5 FSU teams and Bama.
24 games is still a lot to not pull off one victory. I know beating Bama over the last ten years is a tall order, but you got to think you can steal at least one from somebody else.

Yea that's rough. It's worse because you play so many.
I haven't seen the VT base this fired up in quite sometime.
I said this about Clemson once. Then FSU beat us 51-14. We obviously weren't there yet.
I don't think Tech is there yet in terms of the talent that Clemson has, but both teams are very similar. The strong suit for both is defense and both having inexperienced mobile QBs. The difference being VT has a good D and Clemson has a great D.
I just hope Bud's guys don't get burned up by the scrambling QB (seems to be his main weakness) and we have a somewhat close game going into the 4th.

I'm just reminded of that nightmare game every tine I see a fanbase that hyped over a big game. I learned that day it doesn't matter at all. We had a good team, Game Day was there, 8pm game, never seen fans that hyped or heard the staduum that loud. My wife always says when we talk about that game "you were running into the stadium". We left in the 3rd quarter when it was 41-7. That's the only time I've ever done that.
An interesting (to me at least) article about who different people think will be the first SEC coach fired this season. The Jones/Sumlin/Bielema trifecta continues to be where most of the guesses are, but there are several worthwhile points brought up. Bielema has a $15.5 million buyout, and Arkansas has to know their ceiling is only so high. Sumlin has looked better the last couple weeks, but his upcoming schedule is tough (South Carolina, Bama, Florida, Miss State, Auburn). McElwain may not be as safe as people think. He has been winning, but the on field product isn't incredibly exciting. Add to that how many off the field issues are happening, and he may be in trouble.

A bit hard pressed to say McElwain is in any trouble at this point. 21-9 at UF, 15-3 in SEC play. Florida has also shown over the years that off the field issues with players doesn't mean much to them. With the remaining schedule, 9-3/8-4 seems likely. Not sure if I buy into Georgia being a national title contender, but they're def a step ahead of Florida and should beat them this year. After that, all of the other interesting matchups are LSU/A&M/FSU which are all in Gainesville. Eventually the base will get tired of 8/9 wins going into bowl season, but not at this point.
Georgia/UT is an interesting matchup. If Georgia wins, they will for all intensive purposes be 7-0 and in the top 5 going into the Florida matchup. Gotta wonder how much more Jones can survive. A three week stretch of losing to UF - beating UMass by 4 - losing to UGA would be tough when he was already on the hot-seat beforehand.

"intensive purposes"... sorry. I can't help it. That one gets me.
I think the one person from the article is correct in that UT-Georgia will have to go really wrong for it to be Jones' last game. It may be the game where Currie decides to fire him, but they may not announce it until later. It's worth mentioning that Currie is new in his job, and he may be reluctant to make a move regarding arguably the biggest position in the department so early in his tenure unless he is 100% it is needed and justified. He has had a lot of wins in his first few months on the job. People love him for bringing Lady Vols back. As another article I read the other day pointed out, when push comes to shove, he inherited Jones. He can put the blame for that on Hart. If he fires Jones and hires someone else, that hire is all on him, and he will be judged according to that person's success.

Quoted for posterity.
I don't think the biggest UF fan could deny it.
Pitt going be able to break the losing streak this week?
The article I posted earlier had a point in that, if they were gonna do it, why haven't they done it already? Also, it's year two. That's a hard sell to do it (especially this early) when the coach hasn't had long in the job.
I wonder how many CFB programs may wind up involved in the scandal. If they're already doing it for basketball, it's not that big of a leap to football.

Most of the talk from CFB writers this week has been how the two sports are different and this wouldn't make much sense in football. It's the difference in economies of scale - many more misses on recruits in football, even more don't pan out, the true difference makers are hard to determine which makes it hard to pay, it's tough for one player to have that impact because of the nature of the game...etc.

Gameday! Little hung-over from last night (in btw - Sylvan Esso was a blast), but time to get the jeep ready for the haul.
As Fuente would say, time to go 1-0 (but really I just hope our o-line is not in the fetal position because of the Clemson front after the 1st quarter).
