2017 Virginia Tech Football Schedule
Sept. 2 vs. West Virginia (FedEx Field - Landover, Md.) Sept. 9 Delaware Sept. 16 at East Carolina Sept. 23 Old Dominion Sept. 30 Clemson Oct. 7 at Boston College Oct. 14 OPEN Oct. 21 North Carolina Oct. 28 Duke Nov. 4 at Miami Nov. 11 at Georgia Tech Nov. 18 Pittsburgh Nov. 24 at Virginia (Fri.)
Not a big fan of the schedule. No Thursday night games, having to open up ACC play with Clemson, and only 1 home game in November. I'll def be at the WVU game and Clemson, I would imagine if VT wins the opener there will be a good chance gameday is in Blacksburg for the Clemson game.
My guess is 8-4. I'm excited to break in either Jackson or Hooker as the QB of the future...but losing Evans + one of the best WR's in VT history is going to hurt.

While yes, I did mark all games as wins, the four with the question marks I believe we are susceptible to losing. Anywhere between an unbeaten regular season and 9-3 (I don't see losing all four) are possible. Likely, I would say 10-2 is the most likely scenario. We'll drop one game, likely high scoring due to replacing much of our defense, and some other game I'll be salty about for a month.
UGA 9/2 Appalachian State W 9/9 at Notre Dame W 9/16 Samford W 9/23 Miss State W 9/30 at Tennessee W* 10/7 at Vanderbilt W 10/14 Missouri W 10/28 Florida W* 11/4 South Carolina W 11/11 at Auburn L* 11/18 Kentucky W 11/25 at GT W
Georgia has a real chance to go undefeated this year. The * games are the most likely ones to give us a challenge, although there is always that one game we lose that we shouldn't. Probably Samford.

Oklahoma, and Michigan are the repeat games that SHOULD disctate OSU's season. With that being said, Sparty and Penn St will surely give the Bucks all they can handle. I'll take them at 11-1 with the only loss coming to Oklahoma.

I wouldn't be surprised by a loss to FSU either.
I said W because it's at home. FSU should be really good but I'm giving Clemson the edge.

I just can't excited about Tennessee hiring Brady Hoke as the DL coach. Yes, he is supposed to be a good recruiter, but he also was the coordinator for the nation's worst defense last year.

Where was he last year?
Oregon. Also, their defense was actually 126th out of 128. They were outsucked by Texas Tech and Arizona State.

He's really good at identifying and developing d-lineman, he'll be a good hire as long as that's all he's doing.
It's fascinating how sometimes a coaches reputation can so quickly exceed their actual accomplishments.
Sark was fine at UW, but never had a great team. As an Arizona fan (with some fine but not great teams during those years) you always looked at the Washington game as a toss up. Its also worth pointing out how quickly Petersen assembled a great team at UW.
Then he goes to SC where he apparently did nothing but drink for half a season before getting fired.
Also watch Saban hire his third spread, speed offense OC in a row after his whining that the NCAA should change the rules to slow down offenses for player safety.

Kelly and Helfrich are 2 of the names in consideration.

Then he coached a single game for Alabama.
Now he gets an NFL job.
I officially don't get it
Deadspin described Sark's career as, "a man falling down an upwards moving escalator," which is basically perfect.

I'm kind of curious about the timing of the whole thing. I wonder how long Saban has known something was up. I want to feel a little bad for him because he gave Sark a job when almost nobody else would and this is how he is repaid, but fuck Alabama.
Btw, Helfrich was also brought up a bunch for Tennessee's vacancy, so he might just be a name that is getting tossed around this off-season.

College Football and ESPN have been doing this for while now where they have a QB who plays for a major program , wins a lot of games, and or a Heisman trophy and they project them as a number 1 pick in the draft.
I mean we saw this with Matt Leinart, Vince Young , Tim Tebow , Johnny Manziel , RG3 even to a lesser degree Cardale Jones a couple of yrs ago where ESPN falls in love with a college player because he plays for a big program , wins a lot of games , and puts up big numbers. What they fail to understand is that you don't take wins with you , or stats , or trophies , what you take to the next level is arm talent, accuracy , anticipation , mobility , reading coverages none of that has to do with how many games you win in college. Most of the best college teams win due to having stacked rosters full of 5 star recruits who dominate there posistion hence why most great QB's don't come out of USC, Florida, Alabama ,Ohio st , it's because the talent mismatch in college usually inflates the performance of said QB, I mean Tim Tebow put up Aaron Rodgers numbers in college and so did so many draft bust that ESPN has overhyped.
The latest prospect to be overhyped by ESPN , is none other than Deshaun Watson , many of the draft niks and anaylayst are in love with him and think he should be the first pick in the draft and the first QB taken off the board , most of this is due to not only incompetence but also laziness because they don't do due diligence to watch everybody prospect in the draft. If they had watched every prospect closely this season they wouldn't gather than Deshaun Watson not only shouldn't be taken with the first pick in the draft , he shouldn't be taken in the first round, they would see he's very limited as a passer , they would see he aims his throws , he doesn't always set his feet , he often sails the ball and overthrows WR , he can't read coverage , he doesn't take snaps under center , he has no velocity he can only make about 3 throws on the field , he plays the game purely off instincts he doesn't have a natural feel for the QB posistion.
Now what I see is People talk about his brilliant performance in the playoff games in particular Alabama but a couple of things
1. A QB by the name of Johnny Manziel once upon a time lit up Saban's defense .
2. Alabama was so limited Offensively , where over the course of the game defense got worn out and Clemson ran about 100 plays and just took advantage it wasn't a fair fight at all but if you notice in the first half when Alabama's defense wasn't tired they pretty much nullified Watson and they exposed his limitations as a passer
I say all that to say GMs don't the listen to ESPN over the last 10 yrs they have steered many organizations in the wrong direction , let the names RG3, Vince Young , Matt Leinart , Tim Tebow , Johnny Manziel be a cautionary tale.

I'm not sure who/where you copied that from? From what I can tell Deshaun isn't getting the hype for the draft that those other guys got. I've seen people say he could go in the first 5 picks, but I've seen probably more say that he's probably somewhere between 10-15 and even some that said he shouldn't be in 1st rd. The guy I've listened to that seems to know the most about it, seems to believe he'll be in the 10-15 range.

I think his point (aside from taking a shot at Clemson) was re: ESPN picking prospects to overhype. McShay has him going at #2 to the 49ers. Kiper has him going at #10 to the Bills. I think both of those are reaches for Watson. From what I have seen from you, I think you would agree, but I could be wrong.

I don't think any of it is a reach. Those teams need a qb and Deshaun is the best in the draft. I have no idea if any of them are going to pull the trigger on him that early, because there are plenty of known questions with him. I know for sure he's better than Trubisky though, that shit is a joke. I don't feel the overhyping, definitely not like any of those other qbs. No one is saying he's a clear cut top 3 pick or anything.

Aside from McShay?
McShay and Kiper know nothing. I know that's a big claim, but the guy I listen to says it all the time. I don't think people really pay attention after the draft to see how wrong they are. But, I think McShay said some bullshit like that's not where I think he should go, but it's where he's likely to go. I'd rather he not go to a terrible team, so I hope he doesn't go that early.
