They're most likely closing Which. That's probably a huge milestone for their Bonnaroo career.
I wouldn't bet on it. Travis Scott will most likely be closing down the Which Stage in a similar time slot to Wiz Khalifa in 2014. At this point, Bonnaroo would probably prioritize someone like Travis Scott or Lorde to play at night over Umphrey's.
Travis Scott into Lorde into The Weeknd makes so much more sense though. Who else would they put before Lorde?
Travis Scott wouldn't make sense playing in total daylight though. He literally complained on stage at MIA last year that he didn't get a night slot. With how high he is on lineups and the types of live productions he's been putting together, it wouldn't work at 6:00pm on the mainstage. My bet is they'll have Lorde 7:00-8:00 > The Weeknd 9:00-however long his set is, with Travis Scott on the Which Stage in between. Or you could switch Lorde and Travis Scott around. Then they'll just fuck over Umphrey's exactly like they did in 2014.
Edit: but if he has a stage setup like this, he's closing the Which Stage

This was one of my major piss offs. Their late night set in 2012 (?) was incredible. And the afternoon What stage set a few years back was not nearly as awesome. I was really hoping for a alternative to EDM for late night
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

It's no surprise.
Everybody was psyched last year for the potential of Ween closing out a tent LN, and they got Sunday afternoon Which closer. That's just what Roo does now with jam bands.

o If you mean the sunrise with big gigantic intermission, yes it was 2012 and that was one of my favorite sets ever

I suspected them to play late night as well, maybe even a 3 a.m. set but it seems those days are done. STS9 played late two years ago and it was an awesome set.

That set was such fun and one of the things that for me set Bonnaroo apart from every other festival. So glad I was there and still remember leaving the tent with the sun coming up over the farm. I had just discovered Big Gigantic that weekend and then to have them turn up with Umphreys, which was so completely unexpected, blew my mind. That was Before Kalliope (BK) took over late night.
UM has been progressively getting bigger spots at Roo over the year. Last time they played they were on What (the bands choice) mid-day and played a fairly jam-lite set. This time they're playing Sunday...is there any other spot that makes sense for them other than closing the Which? I know people will say Travis Scott will probably be there, but when was the last time a non-rock act closed the Which?
This is a huge chance for Bonnaroo to off-set people upset with The Weeknd closing by giving UM a chance to play, full production, closing set on the Which...don't fuck this up!

Where'd you see this?
There was an interview with Joel right before Roo 2014 where he said they chose to play What because they saw it as a way to challenge themselves and step out of the box. I'll try to find it.

Thanks, would like to read it.
I get the appeal of playing on the big stage, but I wonder if they knew they'd be booked so early in the day when they asked for it. And it's cool to check it off as an accomplishment, but you'd think they'd pull for a LN slot this year, seeing as how they dominate those. And it would be a token move on Bonnaroo's part to some of the old timers who are still with them.

Yeah 5:15 to 6:15. Woo I guess. Like many of you, I was at the 2:00am show in 2012 and stayed through the end. Had they done another overnight set, it would have pulled me more in the direction of going. Same with the mega-U2 stage not happening there either. Those would be 2 of my top few acts to see, and they are blemished.

If UM was closing out a tent on Sunday I would be tempted to get a day pass and just hang out in Nashville on Saturday. Margo Price -> Royal Blood -> UM all back-to-back on the main stages in the sun with two of them playing on Which just isn't worth it for me. That and the gap of nothing I am interested in between Greensky Bluegrass and The Weeknd.
if it's not bullshit, they are a pretty ideal band to host a superjam there since they literally play everything from hip hop to Black Sabbath. That would be an exciting development.
