Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
It's 900 degrees. It's not like you can really sleep in and recharge. You can't go anywhere. So you're basically left sitting in your tent village trying to stay cool and wait for the day to begin.
This is why it's so important for a southern, summer festival of this magnitude to stack the undercard (as you know).
I did not. But I've been at fests during some of the hottest days in Houston, so maybe I'm just more ok with it.
There have been exceptionally hot years, but the lineups were worth roughing it. Loaded/conflicting schedules were a norm so it made it easier to not focus on the heat.
Gonna get wild with it a little here but I actually support the later start times. It's just too fucking hot during the day, and having at least the What and the Which start a little later makes good sense to me.
Now, do I think they should be ending earlier in addition to starting later? Absolutely not. But on that one thing I think there's a good argument to do it.
I guess my thing is that they have a captive audience and they don't really offer anything else to do in the morning/early afternoon. And they continue to charge more for less.

I know some of you are actual three dimensional friends so you probably enjoy each others' company and all that. As awesome as some of y'all surely are, I'd rather see three or four more bands.
Seriously, how much could like 4 white boy reggae bands cost? They don't even need a stage setup/tear down. Throw a Citizen Cope or JJ Grey or something up on the What and I'll nap to it and probably spend some money on a morning beer and breakfast. Right now I just eat and drink at camp, which makes Bonnaroo $0.
Yeah, I wasn't aware of anybody blaming LCD for this mess. If anything you'd go back to Deadmau5, no?
The consensus seems to be that they now rely too heavily on generic-or-worse EDM acts to fill out the bill if we're blaming programming and that seems like it started snowballing after that headlining slot.
Personally, I blame their scheduling just as much. They offer do much less "programming" than even two years ago, let alone five. Less venues, later starts, shorter sets. Less to chose from means that they think outside of the box less, leading to a more generic festival.

I agree with this so much that it wasn't enough to merely like the post. So many shows ruined by getting absolutely throttled by the sun at the Which.

But it is actually hotter at 3 than it is at noon.

shows at the which could start at 6 honestly. The what isnt as bad since the pit is shaded. The later you start, the more miserable shows you are eliminating. Even if its worse at 3, its still unbearable at 1

I don't think LCD ruined Roo. That's a bit much.
I will say that of the 3 that went to Roo with me, and the 11 others that went to Wayhome, 0 of them previously knew of LCD. There was a shimmer of hope when I was shuffling through some songs for them and North American Scum came on and I got a "Oh shit, that's the song from Step Brothers!". But it unfortunately didn't really go much further than that. A few of them have since been dabbling here and there with a few songs, but they didn't really take to anyone in either group. Sometimes I wonder if I need new friends..
I honestly think it was the wonky looking top 2 lines of last year that caused such a massive bed-shitting. Each of your 3 headliners have a pretty dedicated fan base sure, but it wasn't like they were overly exclusive? All 3 have tons of dates spring-fall. Even line 2, as popular as those artists are with the college kids, don't really require a trip to Bonnaroo to see them.

Yeah, but you gotta remember, your body is like a battery with a finite amount of energy, so even if the hottest part of the day is 3ish, the less time you spend getting your brains scrambled in the sun the better you feel when it starts to cool off.
I'm not one to add fuel to the fire usually, but I'm in college and I've known who LCD were for several years. I can't speak for all the students in my school/area but the few I'm good friends with at least know of them

Pretty ok with the lack of reggae this year and last tbh
When people on inforoo (who are supposed to be the die hards) are saying they didn't know them too well, or had no interest prior. That should kind of tell you all you need to know.
Problem is that there are a lot of "diehards" who watch inforoo, have stepped away from the board but not the community of people, yet pay attention sometimes that make this argument difficult. I mean there's people who even knew where the fuck nodepression was.

Let's admit that the reggae from 2010 on was weak as fuck as well.
No real attempts to get Bad Brains, Easy Star All Stars, The Wailers or anyone in the dub circuit. Reggae, turned into either "ragga"-influenced sweettooth bands or House Dub/diplo-esque versions of Dancehall.

Look at last year's top six.
Pearl Jam - Dead & Co. - LCD Soundsystem J. Cole - Ellie Goulding - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
There's your answer. Very few people who listen to the top three also listen the bottom three. If they want to sell tickets, either make your entire lineup for the college kids, or go back lineups like 2012-14. Pretty much every middle aged man traveling for U2 this year will have zero options the rest of the weekend (sans RHCP).
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest

I like that your response actually makes some type of logical sense. Severely lacking these days.

Insert whatever dime-a-dozen genre you want there, then. Put on some deep or ambient house, or some indie folk, or some bluegrass. There's no reason not to have a million options at Bonnaroo. Okeechobee can fund nearly 24 hours of music for 4 days straight, including Thursday and Sunday, with 1/3(?) the attendance

I saw an older gentleman in attendance with his young son on Thursday the year the lineup included Buffalo Springfield, Robert Plant, and Greg Allman. He was enjoying Beats Antique I take it since he kept repeating their name Maybe it was just the Antiques part that got him to the show. The son appeared to just want to get away and enjoy the party atmosphere. That year I saw lots of families in attendance. There was a couple around 19 camped near me in Tent Only and the girl's father who was camped elsewhere would visit every afternoon. That year had a great mix of old and new. The older acts were of legendary status and the newer acts were the likes of Eminem, Lil Wayne, Bassnectar and same year Grammy winners like Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, and The Black Keys. That year was the most crowded I've attended and I got to see the Mavs beat the Heat for the NBA title on the final night. One of my favorite Roos, despite all the dust and heat.
