Message from IMP:
"We always say we have the best staff in the world, and right now they need us more than ever.
The prohibition of gatherings in the city was just extended to April 27, which frankly, is painful. The majority of our hourly staff is effectively out of work until we are able to reopen, which is why we've created the I.M.P. Family Fund to assist in these difficult times.
Starting right now, I.M.P. will match the value of every gift card purchased in the next week (through March 28th) with a donation to the I.M.P. Family Fund. Your gift card purchase is really a double whammy. Not only does it help our staff now, it is support for future concerts, artists and the venues when we reopen. (We cannot wait for that day!) What’s more, Friends With Benefits members will earn double points on the gift card purchase.
So, head on over to our merch page, and grab a gift card (or maybe a few) today to use for tickets to a future show, merch or concessions, and know that the same amount will go towards helping out our stellar team."

Not surprising. My girlfriend knows someone who works at Merriweather and they have been told the summer 2020 season will be cancelled/postponed as well

Im interested to see what the first IMP venue that comes back is and when that will be. My guess is U Street in Spring 2021
Even if we have a vaccine by the end of 2020, I don't see indoor concerts being feasible in the spring. Also if Congress can't get their act together and provide financial aid to independent venues, there might not be any IMP venues still alive by the spring.

IMP had been looking into selling the 930 Club land and move to a new location. It was a long term idea, but wouldn’t be surprised if that effort picks up steam now.

So my read is that The Anthem will survive regardless (the developer wouldnt be able to do anything with that space, and wants it to drive apartment/hotel rentals), but I have to imagine that 930 Club and U Street are at serious risk.

didnt know that IMP owned the 930 club outright. Guessing it will survive as well then. The capital markets for commercial real estate are not good right now, dont think that they would be able to sell at a price that would make sense.

Well, that's both good and bad, IMO. I liked Echostage better as an independent, but you have to think they will all survive now, at least. Echostage was the biggest venue that I thought might not survive the pandemic in the DMV area, looking at the ownership entities for the buildings that DC-area concert venues rent from.
Man, I bet Club Glow got bought for almost nothing. Obviously, it sucks way more for the people who are unemployed completely but imagine building a business for 20 years, and then you gotta let it go at the absolute bottom. That's really gotta hurt.
Edit: LOL looks like this deal closed in 2019, they might have sold at the absolute height.

I really hope that the IMP venues can stay afloat... Echostage is fine as a venue itself, but I always hated having to venture out to that area of town.
