As much as I’ve complained about artist drops, I had an amazing first day. The drink issue made me roll my eyes, but I’m not a big drinker to begin with and I can just drink more water before and after the fest.
Kim Gordon: the Auditori is an amazing venue that elevated her sound. Line to get in was absurd though, I really want to see Low tomorrow but it’ll be tough.
Dinosaur Jr: super fun, especially once the pit opened up.
Charli XCX: completely changed my opinion on Crash. It’s a an absolute party of an album live.
Tame Impala: I was on the rail for Pavement waiting for this show, so it was a side angle. I’ve always through they were kinda meh live, and while this didn’t change my opinion, that Last Nite cover was amazing.
Pavement: will likely be the show of the weekend. Started on the rail for the first 3rd, then moved back to the pit for the rest. Such a tight setlist and they sounded incredible.
Otoboke Beaver: I wanted to see black midi, but I got lost and thirsty so I cut my losses and went to Otoboke Beaver. I was too exhausted and sore to go all out for this, but their energy level was through the roof.
DJ Shadow: only saw 30 minutes of it, but he played the more rap driven bangers and it was a nice way to close the night.
rlly don’t get the complaints about it being “oversold” or super crowded at all. the super central bars had massive queues but a five minute walk will get you to a far quieter one. showed up to charli on the main stage like five minutes before she started and was super close, same with fred again. never been to a festival where showing up just before gets me a good spot before. and didn’t see any “crush” at binance when i was there either ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭
not denying anyone else’s personal experiences but let’s not bitch too hard. it’s a festival, it’s gonna be busy.
did end up doing pirouettes with the lead singer of wet leg to big freedia today tho - very surreal

Disastrous one-day Live Nation festivals: "Wow this horrible, dangerous and unacceptable. These conditions are inhumane. Live Nation is the worst and shouldn't be holding festivals anymore"

Funny thing is LN has some stake in Prima so you can def see they advised them on the cost cutting measure with staff. Wonder how much they lost in beer sales for being this stupid.
At least it cant be nearly this bad for the LA version since nobody is going to go to it anyway!
Bathroom situation wasn't a problem for me, either, but I went twice all day and once was in the main VIP pen and the other was a urinal (this is getting to be too much information). Zach did say they were gross and I didn't go in a GA porta.
Gotta crash. Had an awesome time, going back tomorrow with hopes that it's just been a long time since they've done this and they're trying some new stuff and they'll figure it out. Coachella had freaking Harry Styles's audio in Gizz's monitors, so they're all rusty. Not canceling Prima or telling anyone not to go. Would advise against VIP if it stays this way, but hopefully they work that out too. It was super nice getting in the Auditori quickly, but that doesn't justify the premium on its own.
Anyway, I'll do a recap or something on the train tomorrow. If I leave early enough, I think hoffm83n and I might get lunch or some beers. Didn't drink at all today so might go hard tomorrow. We'll stay in touch (on the discord).

They made a bunch of really stupid decisions that are ridiculous individually and unforgiveable collectively.
- Eliminated all the mobile vendor stations that used to sell water/gatorade/power drinks and were all over in past years - Replaced those with bullshit €12 sangria stands and other high price drinks and did not allow those vendors to sell water in addition to the high priced bullshit - Reduced the number of water refill stations - Did not put the big signs identifying the few water refill stations - Water refill stations were either not working or barely working a good amount of time
One of the best things about this festival has been the logistical efficiency and the wide availability and easy access to €2 water bottles. You never had to walk more than a minute or two to a water vendor no matter where you were. They did it consistently for a long time and it ruled, and in Catalonia heat, it's essential.
Forcing you to go and find food vendors with long lines just to buy water, when lots of food vendors didn't carry water and many were hit and miss, was bullshit. Or having to go wait in beer lines to buy water, or actually spend 15-20 minutes searching to try and figure out where you could actually get water, was a giant pile of shit for people who never had to do that in the past and just wandered 50 yards in any direction and there was a water vendor.
Whether the motive was profit or they didn't want to deal with the logistics of delivering water to all the field vendors...I don't care what it was, but it's fucking stupid. And we already know they're well capable of delivering a good system because they've done it forever.
Just inexplicable and dumb and made the entire festival shittier having to deal with that issue. I'm sure there are some first timers who don't know any better and thought it was fine but it's a massive step in the wrong direction compared to what they've done in the past and a shitty indicator of where they're heading if they made a conscious decision to shaft people to sell fucking sangria.
Has Lightning Bolt always been on the main lineup? If you haven’t seen them and are there at 3 am .. you’ll be talking about this band forever.
Yep! They are on the original color coded lineup from last year, or at least whatever version of that I saved to my phone. I'm going to at least some of them. Only issue is they conflict with the end of Jamie and also Mogwai as of the schedule shifts yesterday, but I could see leaving Jamie a little early or very early if the mains are a shitshow again.
Wearing a gray Bernie 2020 shirt that Dave Maynar got me for Secret Santa. It's Bernie getting carried away by the cops, which'll be me today if they turn me away from the VIP pen again. Also wearing a pretty, gold vanity wristband.
Also, I have psoriasis, so if you see someone with a bunch of pink splotches on their calves, that's probably me.

They put on the same show regardless if the audience has 10 people or 1000. There’s a reason Bjork picked him to drum for her live band and that has a lot to do with it.
My favorite LB story was when they played before Frank Ocean and like 100 stans were crowding the front of the stage waiting for him. LB set up in the floor and by the first song had cleared them all out. Poor fuckers had no idea what they were getting into. They also never stood a chance.
Sounds like stay away from the far side of Binance from the entrance and it'll be safer. Stay on the right side if you're facing the stage. Hopefully they adjusted the layout, but that's where the supposed crush happened. There's tons of overflow on the right, or was when I was there, although that was early.
