Primavera doesn't need big headliners to shine and they've never really been the festival that relies on it's headliners aswell.
Eh they’ve had some big headliners especially in terms of draw in Europe Pulp, Blur, The Cure, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Neil Young
Sure, but as a litteral giant in the alternative festival landscape wouldn't you want to book those bands? Even though they've booked those bands, it's always been about the undercard imo. Plus you can't keep on recycling the same bands every five years (cause they book from a smaller pool than major festivals) so by putting those female artists on top, you're kinda creating new headliners for the following years which is also a good thing but I understand that you would've atleast expected The Cure for example.

I will say it's nice to see Primavera always changes it up. Every year they're the multigenre fest truly on the cutting-edge of electronic music, so that's pretty sweet.
Update: my dad is also in for this. He is very excited to see Cupcakke.
That's rad going to a festival with family. Me and my brother did CalJam (1 day) and he nearly fell over by the end. I also did a 1 day local festival with my mom (Rod Stewart baby!) and she complained the entire day about standing, lines, etc..
Question for all Americans: how much did you spend on lodging/food/other expenses per day when doing Primavera in the past?
are you trying to stay in a hotel or Airbnb or hostel? could do 20-40euros per night if you do a hostel or Airbnb. There's a metro ticket you can get for I think 10 euros that gives you 10 metro rides which is a cheap way to get around the city. I don't eat much when I'm going to festivals and I drink a decent amount of beer but that just seems like it would depend on you specifically.

Further confirmation that Primavera is one of a handful of festivals on earth (feel free to argue about anything else beyond Coachella and Glastonbury) that you can fully plan for a year ahead of time, buy presale, book air tickets, etc., and be 100% confident that you won't regret it when the lineup drops.

Is that 20-40 Euros a night for a hostel/AirBNB in a shared room? Haven't decided on lodging yet, and I would probably want to start on the Monday to also be able to soak up the city. Just not sure how much more expensive Barcelona is versus other European cities such as Paris.

If you go up to 40 you could maybe get a shared hostel room with like 2 or 3 other people so not too bad. Airbnb you could get your own room but you'd be in someones apartment (this is my favorite option because its hard to sleep all day in a giant hostel dorm and the fest is from 6pm -6am). Barcelona is much, much cheaper than Paris. I'm planning on Monday - Monday, there's shows all week from Monday - Sunday that are free and you can sight see during the days on those first days.

Jayda G, Steffi, Voiski live and Forest Drive West for the bleep bloops. I'm actually happy I could name at least one artists not on your list; I swear you listen to more artists than anyone, competing with garageland and Fred ofc

Is Steffi the lady that spins only vinyl? I think someone posted about her here before. I actually meant to have voiski on there. FDW and Jayda G I will check out!

Not sure, but she put out a dope entry to the DJ Kicks mix album series last year. She also released an album last year, which I still need to check out. A lot of her original productions are great.

No Jawbreaker? Easily the biggest reason I'm jealous.
I'd move The Necks up to "must see" (assuming it's in the Auditori) and add Midori Takada to that list. She's a brilliant composer and her latest album is one of my favorites this year. Again, she'd kill the Auditori.

Otherwise, you nailed it.
My knowledge of Jawbreaker is 100% just you fluffing them on this forum, I'll have to actually give them a listen. The Necks seem like a band I know I should see that I'll end up skipping to catch Charli or something. Will check out Midori as well.

I'm very sure you'll especially like Overmono, Jasss, and Caterina Barbieri. I'd start from those.
Jon Hassell (first performance in 5 years or smt) and Suzanne Ciani are legends, and I'd def try to make it happen barring any conflicts.

Thank you! I'll definitely avoid a shared hostel room then, since I'm getting old and would need ample recovery time each day.
Though I think it'll be cool not to adjust to the jetlag coming from the East Coast, because then there will be no late night fatigue when doing this festival.
