To be fair, the alienation of having Pyramid Song ruined for me by some whack UT co-ed complaining about her iPhone 8 is basically the most Radiohead thing that has ever happened to me.
I just did GA, but talked to a bunch of people throughout the weekend that raved about VIP. From what I learned about VIP, if I go again I would 100% do VIP without even thinking.
On secret shows:
Maybe I'm an idiot but the Arcade Fire show took me by surprise. I knew it was going to happen some point, but didn't realize it would be that early at that point. I didn't have great awareness early on, though, so I may have just dropped the ball not checking the app/reddit while pre-gaming for the fest. Prima is really into not doing the same thing twice, but the way it worked last year, was the app would start flashing around an hour before a secret show announcement, then it would be announced like 30 mins before "officially." But both the Mogwai and HAIM shows leaked the day before on twitter so we were well aware of both. If you just have general awareness, you'll be fine.
The official app announced it about five minutes before the show, so don't blame yourself.
After scoring tickets to the LCD Soundsystem club concert in 2016 (tears of happiness), I figured something was bound to happen with the Arcade Fire tour opener and tried to track it down. Someone on reddit PMed me that he first heard confirmation about a secret show back in December or January, so I hoped for a club secret show before the festival started in the same mold of LCD. It didn't happen, so Thursday afternoon I went to meet Run the Jewels downtown just as my friends back home informed me about reports of an unknown stage appearing on site. Apparently the festival has built a 360 stage on the grass near the bridge and next to the Primavera stage, just for the Arcade Fire show. I alarmed all my friends on site, took a picture with rtj and ran the fuck back to Parc del Forum, taking two metros and reading on it that the a Arcade Fire called Everything Now is about to be released in a couple of minutes. I made it just as they started playing the fourth song, "No Cars Go". I was so much on it, Had my good friends back home not on it as I was, I might've found out after the show and would've had tons of fun anyway. I can't top Primavera because there's always so much to discover.
Easily the best music festival I've ever experienced.
Me and my gf saw Richard and Jeremy in a cafe in the Gothic district on Wednesday and we're thisclose to going up to them and asking when the secret set was but decided not to. Looking back on it, it was kind of stupid and we ended up seeing Jeremy on the floor before their concert in LA and actually talked to him and he was amazingly nice so he probably would have been easy to talk to there.
We also went to Razzmattazz Wednesday night thinking they might do a secret show there but it was some dumb EDM thing lol
we're just going to let the keg back pack thing slide like that? how has that not been implemented in the states yet?
it really was amazing. it wasnt a full size keg obv, but they would grab it, strap it to the backpack with a cup dispenser also attached to it, with a huge flag sticking up, and they walked around the crowd selling beer.
anytime you were watching a set and needed a beer, you just looked around for the led flag lit up and went and got your beer.
The 4 way pissers was one of my favorite thing about Primavera. It was so quick with no line and left the portos cleaner. This should just be the standard for every festival.

Unfortunately this isnt something I ever see them implementing in the US since our drinking age is 21. With it being 18 in Europe, its a lot easier to work the crowd w/ beer.

The beer backpack ruled though.
4 way pissers were at FYF this year, at least in the main stage side bathrooms.
The guy who ran FYF that has since been canned for sexual misconduct was super close with the Primavera people, so probably brought them over after seeing how convenient they were.

Except that the douchebags at FYF kept throwing their beer cups into the urinals so when you went to pee in one, your pee splashed back all over you, making them unusable.

That happens in Europe too.
And I think the reason you don't see the 4 way pissers in many American places is due to obscenity laws... as in, whipping your dick out in public could get you on the sex offender registry.
I'm totally cool just waking up to the poster tomorrow morning.
I'm still a bit skeptical they booked them, but Arctic Monkeys (though by no means rare) are one of my gf's favorite bands and she had a blast at Primavera last year so may get her thinking about wanting to go again.
