The more I look at this lineup, the better I think it is. Outside of The Weeknd and The Killers bookings, there are more than enough artists that I would love to see and could fill each day with (and that's without any research/digging), especially knowing what else is offered at this fest. I only say that about the Weeknd and Killers because I saw them both already multiples times and like their early albums much more than their new stuff. My only wish is that The Weeknd would play more stuff from the Trilogy mixtapes. The undercard is great throughout, and they managed to book a diverse, interesting, and unique fest while others become more homogenized and watered-down. I would be going if the other three people I went with last year did not shoot it down, and if I did not have GA Floor Radiohead tickets for the Thursday we would drive out.
My experience with ATCQ at FYF was the crowd just wasn't all that familiar with their material and the OG's didn't really show up.
Yeah, that was the feeling I had too. I was just surprised since we were so close to Queens. Damn... that day was so good. I wish I could just go back to last year. Tribe>Justice>NIN was a hell of an ending to an awesome weekend.

It was a bummer that Tribe only got an hour, too. There were some stone classics I was expecting to hear, but didn't.
Thankfully, that was kind of made up for when Tip and Jarobi came out and performed with LL Cool J at The Meadows...*in* Queens. That was a really special moment.

ATCQ should have played Afropunk or their own show
Honestly, I think Janet and especially Cardi would've been better off doing Afropunk. The Pano crowd Friday and Sunday last year, in my opinion, was kinda wack
Janet is way too big for Afropunk
In name, maybe. They've booked some fairly big names the past couples years, though -- SZA, Tyler, Solange, Ice Cube. I think (hope) this year will be even better
Shit, is there a thread where I can just rave about how good Panorama was the last two years? I'm getting nostalgic.
Here is fine. Despacio was a convenient way to pass the time in 2016. I enjoyed that.
FKA Twigs was out of this world that year, and since practically nobody was there for Broken Social Scene or her set, it was so easy to get up front. Museum of Love>the Julie Ruin>Daughter>Anderson .Paak>Blood Orange>The National>Sufjan Stevens>Kendrick was probably my favorite non-Radiohead day of music that entire year. And then, RTJ killed it on the main stage; Sia literally brought me to tears, which was completely unexpected; and, I got to see LCD do their longest set of the four times I saw them that summer. It's actually starting to sting that I am not going back this year.

I am a fucking idiot though and did not make time for Despacio and have regretted it since.
If you've got the time and budget for a last-minute trip, they're doing a three-night run of it at the Knockdown Center in Queens the last weekend of March.

Sia was my favorite set of that weekend. I knew she was capable, but she totally stole the show. Foals > Anderson Paak > Blood Orange > AlunaGeorge > The National > Sufjan/Kaytranada > Kendrick was a nice run. I did Despacio > Tensnake > Rufus > RTJ > Sia > LCD on that final day (regretted missing Classixx).
Looking back Saturday and Sunday were both pretty stacked.

Yeah, I saw that and thought about it for a good bit. But grad school and lack of cash is bringing me down this year. My partner and I are going to do Homecoming in April and have Mitski, Of Montreal, and hockey tickets all right around then too. But, thanks for the heads up, I would love to make the trip if I could or lived in NYC.

Sia totally stole the show. I was blown away. It was really cool that they could book a fest two years in a row that equally satisfied my aunt, my girlfriend, and I simultaneously. Sia was a major selling point for her that year. Also, seeing Sufjan doing the Age of Adz songs after two fancy indoor Carrie and Lowell shows was fucking perfect.
Side Note: I saw Classixx at Roo in 2014, and they were great; I had a prof. in undergrad that knew them and told me about them.

I caught Classixx at that Bonnaroo show too. Solid daytime set.

Still upset that I had to miss the first day of Pano 2016 due to work (since I was and am still dying to see FKA twigs), but the other two days were so great. I skipped The National in favor of getting front-row at Sufjan, and that set made my top 10 shows of all-time. There's a bootleg floating around from the Sirius XM live recording, and each time I listen to it I get a massive euphoric grin on my face. Kendrick playing one of his relatively-rare To Pimp a Butterfly sets as a headliner was fun too, especially in contrast to the DAMN production that he's now been touring with.
The Sunday was memorable as well in its own way. Dancing barefoot on the grass to LCD Soundsystem on a hot summer night. Incredible headlining set.

Still quite possibly the best concert experience I've ever had.
David Byrne sold-out Kings Theatre due to the lower prices compared to Forest Hills...So I still have time to score those $85 tix after his performance @pano.
The Voidz are playing at Elsewhere every Wednesday in June.
does anyone that's not me want to actually start up a NYC thread? Feels like it'd be useful
That would be a good idea since every new concert update pops-up every day... There's some dates of The Voidz that conflict with other concerts as well in the are.

If I still lived there, I'd love to start it. But I can always contribute if somebody else starts one.
Yeah I'm leaving later this year, hence my reluctance, but given the current state of this thread and the Gov Ball one it seems like there are enough people in the area to warrant it

So... how about that new David Byrne album? I, for one, find it excruciating. Would still be cool to see this year's tour based on Talking Heads classics and the production, but yikes.

I'd also argue the venues and times play a role.
Forrest Hills is outside and seating is not particularly great (high school-style metal bleachers with no backs for the majority of the seating). Plus their shows start earlier due to having to cut off music by 10 p.m.
While Kings theatre is absolutely stunning inside, has regular theater seating, and concert time is more like a lot of other city shows.
Something about the structure of Kings gives certain shows a really "epic" quality. I'm sure Byrne will be one of those. Father John Misty was last year

NYT did a piece on “the new indie rock” the other day with this blurb on Rex Orange County
Something similar is at play in the work of Rex Orange County, a young British lounge-soul singer with a firm grasp on kitsch and devastatingly earnest lyrics. Last year he released his second full-length album, “Apricot Princess,” an innovative modern cabaret landmark (though certainly he would bristle at the thought) that takes in lounge singing, bossa nova, 1960s psychedelia and flashes of jazz.
Rex Orange County’s slightly distracted approach to tender singing is indebted to Frank Ocean. (And he is a favorite of Tyler, the Creator, who has been a prime advocate for this style of off-kilter melodic pop.)
On his best songs, the singing is imperfect, and the instruments weep and sulk. Take “Untitled,” a suite of plangent guitars and lightly woozy singing:
But why can’t I be any other boy That doesn’t need a hand in love? Someone that I would trust But how did I fail To give you all the love that you deserve? When you’re the only thing that’s worth What life is worth
In addition to that album, he released a pair of singles that refined his style even further, both with nods to the 1970s: “Edition” with its soft-focus funk, and “Loving Is Easy” with its grand, confident singer-songwriter strut. In concert last month at the Bowery Ballroom, he delivered these songs as if assembling them on the spot, a crooner in control of the marionette strings, but not trying to obscure his process

Radius Clauses are so dumb. Who cares if they play another show in the area, especially in a market where those shows are crazy expensive. If they didn't exist the top line for this could conceivably be:

(yes I understand that that is a lot of 90's/white-guy rock but you get my point)
But it's not like that acts would automatically book more shows in the area: smart management teams know enough not to over saturate a market.
I see your point but outside of Smashing Pumpkins the rest of those 3 would easily sell out their other shows here regardless. And Billy ain't turning down that AEG festival check.
