I love how people bitch about every festival booking the same headliners like Muse, Eminem, The Killers and Jack White and now are complaining about a festival potential booking a unique act like Janet Jackson. You can’t have it both ways.
Man if this is a small taste of what the reaction will be when this thing actually drops, I can't wait. I wanna hear all the takes.
Slightly off topic but were you involved in the festival craze around 2009 when the Bamboozle Left festival announced 50 Cent as one of their headliners? Outrage there was hilarious.

Because Janet Jackson is the only way to escape the same bookings? Lol, come on.

I have to say as someone who was part of booking shows (though it was at a college) no matter how certain you may be that an act will be heralded and sell tickets, you really just don't know what the public reaction is going to be until you actually put it out there.
Maybe it's just me, but if someone has expectations of who might headline Panorama and Janet Jackson didn't really fit with those, that's perfectly understandable for reasons that don't make them a racist or a lady-hater.
I feel like this is just another case of folks getting up in arms because they don't like Launch. Like they have to disagree with it because he said it. No one else is allowed to agree with him, either.
I think it’s a criticism of the industry and our culture that booking Janet Jackson is at all controversial. Even taking Launchpad’s comments in the utmost of good faith, it still shouldn’t be at all odd or unexpected. No one described U2 playing their first US fest at Bonnaroo as “odd” or “unexpected.” The reaction was “LiveNation made a big move to boost ticket sales” and it was someone people had been speculating for years. Shame on us for not constantly speculating people like Janet and shame on the industry for not giving us a reason to.

I would think it was odd if Pano booked U2, as well.

Counterpoint to this European Festivals like Mad Cool. Which holy crap would be problematic in US because the 1st woman on the lineup is 35 names into the undercard.

There's nothing odd about Bonnaroo booking U2, outside of the rarity. That is a terrible example. Bonnaroo tries to book the biggest rock bands they can and they've openly spoken pre-2017 about U2 and Prince being their white whale bookings.
If Panorama booked U2, though, I think people would be surprised by that and consider it odd. Even rumors of Pearl Jam didnt really make sense to me. If they had booked Justin Timberlake, I would have considered it odd to book a big popstar, despite that being a white man. I think it has more to do with her being a legacy pop act than anything else. That's not what people think of Panorama as.
Also, as far as "Live Nation made a big move to boost ticket sales", yeah. This probably isn't going to boost ticket sales for Panorama. Again, odd.

This. I am just so disappointed in all of you.
Disillusioned. Disillusioned with the system is what I am!
I love how you’re such a devoted fighter for social justice except when it gives you a chance to score points on your drug festival message board enemies.

eh. multiple festivals that are considered to be ones that are the best booked, have an act in the top 3-5 that kicked a female photographer in the face less than 3 months ago. You book a good enough lineup and people wont care about the other stuff

Exactly, it's odd when a festival who has never booked a legacy pop act before books a legacy pop act. People are reading too much into this.

That had nothing to do with her being a woman. Not even a huge supporter, but he was just be an overall ass to everyone. Antagonizing the crowd, getting blitzed, kicking photographers cameras. Really doubt he said “look a woman!”

No I am with you brother. This is it. This is the fight of our time. This is our struggle. People should have guessed that Janet Jackson was playing the Panorama Music Festival.
