the aldi nearest me (about a block away) is always under construction. in a pretty shitty building that used to house an albertson's. that being said, publix's fried chicken alone makes it the winner for me
TBH I do most of my grocery shopping at a local chain called Big Y. Always loved that name.
i remember going to big y when visiting some relatives up in southhampton. i found it both effective and terrifying that they have entire daycares in them

Can't say I've encountered one inside any of the stores that I shop at, but sounds like a cool idea

i try to do as much of my grocery shopping as possible at Costco. buy bulk and freeze if needed, etc. the prepared foods at costco are almost universally delicious. Love their chicken pot pie and stuffed peppers, in particular.
but we also live close to a Rouses and go there for our smaller trips. It's a good regional chain.
I wasn't huge on Aldi when I went, but the prices were pretty competitive. Publix has my heart forever.
Yeah Aldi is a bit overrated. I feel like they rarely have everything I need (unless I'm fiending for some strange, off-brand German cookie). It's mostly basic stuff just occasionally in generic form.
Aldi is great for your staple products, but I agree that I can rarely get everything I need there. The cost savings for what I do buy there makes it worth the trip if I could ever remember about it. I also need to take advantage of the ladyfriend having a Costco card.

I could write a sonnet about Costco muffins.
oh lord, costco baked goods. my soul for one of those big ass bins of croissants.
As a Whole Foods employee, this is the correct answer.
oh snap.
we just got Whole Foods a couple years ago. i was pretty stoked for the first year or so but we don't go much anymore.
edit: having said that when i'm out of town for work whole foods is a great place to go for lunch/dinner that doesn't make me feel like i'm dying after i eat.
I don't care for Aldi's a whole lot because I like the larger selection of items at ShopRite, but I'll be damned if after every shopping trip I don't pop over to Aldi's and get three avocados for 99 cents each. That's a fucking steal for avocados, especially in winter.

I work in grocery stores all day, come home to unwind on a snowy day and see some arguments and I open this. Fuck you guys, this isn't what I signed up for. That being said, I'm a Meijer shopper.

I use to love going to Meijer when I lived in Michigan.

Thing about whole foods is that some of their stuff is pretty reasonable. Boulets and Cibata loaves they bake there are relatively cheap ($1.99/$3.99 in my neighborhood WF). I like their poblano and corn chowder as well, so I'll sometimes stop in to pick up a pint of that on a cold day. Otherwise, their produce is generally at least as good if not better than most everyone else's. And as long as you aren't getting ultra-niche stuff, comparable pricing. Winn Dixie and Rouse's can get you stuff like button, Portobello or baby bella mushrooms. But if you want shitakes or oysters or criminis, whole foods is the shit. And you can't ever let the $14.99/pound price tag fool you because like 5 shitakes don't weigh but several grams. And adding a few higher end mushrooms in with what you're otherwise using generic buttons for can be rewarding for the cook.

i agree. when i do mention to other Mobilians that i go to whole foods their first reaction is to often scoff and say "more like whole paycheck!!!" or something else clever . but so long as you aren't filling your cart with $7 bags of organic potato chips $12 jars of pasta sauce and are generally sticking to the edges of the store it's not all that bad.
Ty Segall and Panda Bear are both most likely out. Primavera Sound is great. Japan fests hurt Pan. Burgers. Burger places ranked. Aldi's vs. Trader Joe's vs. Whole Foods. Janet Jackson/The Weeknd/The Killers/David Byrne/SZA/potentially or potentially not Jamiroquai.

I don’t know how it is in other parts of the country, but here I can get the same quality organic produce at King Soopers (Kroger) for much cheaper than Whole Foods. And that’s including my discount. I do get all of my meat from there, though. No grocery chain comes close to Whole Foods’ meat selection.
