In case anyone is looking to stock up for 'roo lanterns, fans, etc.; Ingles supermarket currently (8/15/17) has 2-packs of Rayovac C and D batteries for $1. The tag says 10 for $10, but they ring up as $1 per pack. This is very cheap for name brand alkalines, I've found them to be about as good as the regular Energizers.

For everything else that uses AA or AAA, buy some eneloops from amazon or costco and you will never have to replace them for many years. Eneloops are made by Panasonic who also makes the batteries Tesla uses and are rated for around 2000+ charges.
I have never had one fai after multiple yearsl, I just keep adding more to my collection of batteries and have not purchased throwaway AA batteries for years.
Costco usually has the best price on eneloops, but they are usually around $2-3 a battery each with a charger. Otherwise, this is still worthy. You might find a similar package for $24 on sale at costco occasionally.
