So Primavera in Spain, Okeechobee and Hulaween in Florida; Estereo Picnic in Columbia and Electric Forest in Michigan? While I know you make enough money to do them all, I'm predicting a return engagement to Solidrock's couch in Gulf Shores in May. \m/
2015 sold out fast; I'm not sure about 16 or 17 because I don't feel like googling or scrolling through their facebook to when it did.
I would never pay $400+ fun money for "vibezzz" but Forest really does feel different then most fests. If you can get over the fact that it's turned into a Bassnectar festival then I'd recommend going once.
What makes it so much different? I have friends that love the place but all they tell me is "you have to see the lights in the forest and the vibe is unreal". Does vibe just mean readily available ketamine?
It's tough to explain. To me the following things are what make it my favorite festival.
1.) The genres are right up my alley (obviously there are exceptions) 2.) You can totally chill during the day and set up a blanket at multiple stages to have a relaxing afternoon. My afternoons consist of entering at 12. Hammock nap until 3. Set up a blanket at Sherwood or Ranch and chill while watching whatever bands/Djs. It's great to be able to listen to some bands and chill during the day and then get hyped up and party hard with your favorite DJs/bigger bands at night. After going to Lost Lands I realized I can't "rage" all day/night and can't listen to the same shit for 4 straight days. 3.) Once it gets dark it feels like your at a totally different place 4.) The atmosphere inside the Forest is the hardest to explain. Lights/lasers/art are what you'd expect, but there's a peacefulness throughout the actual forest that I can't put my finger on. You can hear music from multiple stages but it still seems so quiet and peaceful. 5.) My first year was pre-bassnectar and the majority of attendees seemed legit interested in every act. I rarely saw anybody ignoring an act on stage or bashing any particular act. That's definitely changed in the past couple years. 6.) Security is legit there to just keep anything major from happening. I have major anxiety and security presence is something that keeps me on edge at certain places. You'll see cops with arms full of kandi and walking around joking with people that are dressed ridiculously or have some crazy totem. They seem to enjoy it as much as the attendees. 7.) Value. Forest is still reasonable considering it's size and life-span.
I'm sure there more that I'm just not thinking of.
Every year they have curated stages. It’s usually either a label, or an artist that puts it on and they have a bunch of acts that fit the theme/genre go one after another

I've always wanted to do this, I've just never been able to convince myself the lineup is worth the trip. It's not as bad as many make of it, just not a ton of music that I particularly care for.

It's not bad at all. Some people don't like jam, so that's whatever. But people are opinionated assholes who think their shit matters.
