This may sound bizzare, but we traveled from MA overnight down I-81. At one point we saw this GIGANTIC cross lit up on a hill somewhere in VA. Anyone else see this or know where it is?? We tried to snap a picture for our road trip scrapbook but it didn't come out through the car window. I tried googling it but I can't find anything.
Oh I saw lots of them while driving, but this one was HUGE and illuminated. It was the wee hours of the morning when I saw it and I was like oh my goodness I must be imagining things.
I don't know what side it was on. I just know as we came through the fog there was an overpass ahead and this gigantic cross was behind it. The way the lights were shining up into the sky was creepy. Wish we could have gotten a picture.

Was it as big as this bad boy?
We passed this on our way out to Roo in 02 and 03 (we've flown ever since). It's off I-24 (i think) in Groom, Texas, and purports to be the world's largest. It's 190 feet tall and yes, they do light it up at night.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Yeah I think it might have been stainless but it was like 3 in the morning and drizzling out so I can't be 100% sure. But it did look something like what lumiblue posted, it was off on a hill away from the road but clearly visible as you drove up upon it.

i drove to roo and thought i'd never see a bigger cross, then in 06 my sister and I drove cross country and we saw this thing. I believe it's on I-40, the southern route across the states.
I'm a fan of the groups of three wooden crosses that pop up every so often, northbound and southbound
Here is one here. It's in Bristol Virginia. One half of Bristol is in Tennessee and the other half is in Virginia.
Personally I think I-81 is one of the most beautiful stretches of Interstate highways in the USA. Have you ever been on I-80 from Pennsylvania to Illinois or I-95 North Carolina to Florida ?
SW Virginia's radio stations suck. Sorry, but I only need to hear Sweet Home Alabama and Turn the Page once in a while, not.... 148102830218374 times!
this is the hell that I live in, I haven't listened to a local radio station in a very long time becasue its either songs Ive heard a million times, or nickleback, stained, creed, puddle of mudd, daughtry...basically all the cancers of popular rock that abound these days. I rocked the iPod on shuffle for a while but I've gotten back into the lost art of making mix CDs , it might be the best way to travel.
