Unlike Moogfest's strange lineup announcement this year, their 2018 lineup announcement has begun with its first phase in a more conventional way. The first phase highlights female, transgender and non-binary artists.
Doubt I'd be able to go the whole weekend, but highly considering going for some of the weekend to potentially catch Umfang among others. Excited to see who else they announce.
I keep being five minutes late to getting to inforoo to post things today... (tЯist♡n , the ~so called tru Suf stan)
But yeah. Am excited and also very glad they're going with a less confusing/frustrating lineup release strategy this time around. It is good to learn from one's mistakes
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Yeah. Because obviously our world doesn’t need specifically female-empowered , trans/non binary centric spaces right now. Nope. No representation for them, pls - they’ve received enough, don’t you think?

Yeah, I'm on the side of breaking up the bill by gender is pretty lame.
"Furious to be (without approval) on an all-female & non-gender-binary announcement list for @moogfest. Gender is not a genre. I don't need a sympathy pedestal, esp from a male curator. Take my name off this list and put me in the pit with the boys." +1, Caroline.

She's kind of got a point, billing by gender kind of seems like a marketing technique in this situation.

Okay, so normally I'd absolutely agree with you. But she must not know the history of Moog...and the very real and multiple efforts they've made the past few years to specifically focus on female empowerment & LGBTQ/non binary folk inclusion. I have gone to the past two Moog festivals. It isn't a gimmick. It isn't just for marketing. They prioritize it in a way that no other music festival in the US does/has, that I've seen.
So I feel like she should probably have done her research before accusing them in the way that she did.

Should they have explicitly checked with all the femme-identifying/non binary artists before listing it in this way? Ok, maybe, I guess. But like....given how often we see lineups with, like, 4 non male identifying artists/bands IN TOTAL, it sort of pisses me off that this has been construed in this way. Do you see the world we live in?? The government we are currently under?? For Moog to 1) choose to bill that many Female/trans/non binary folks to begin with, and then 2) make sure that they publicize them FIRST - honestly, I think it is fucking awesome. And know that this is in concert with workshops and other art pieces in the festival that speak to this same prioritization.
It isn't like they advertised all the females/non binary peeps in any sort of belittling or dehumanizing way.

Yeah probably would have just been better checking with the artist before packaging in this manner. The thought was nice. It just wasn't very well executed. I've seen other fests act more subtle in their efforts. I'm not a woman so I can't say much here, but I could see how one might be offended for being presented for their chemical makeup and not just the art they've created.
Dudes on the internet complaining about the celebration of artists from underrepresented groups perfectly illustrates why this is necessary.
the poster makes zero mention, if you didn't see the tweet/post/etc. you'd have zero clue. Maybe you'd ask yourself if it was from the names you recognized, but I'd hardly call this a 'celebration'. I'm not complaining about it either, I just think that however they decide to present the 'hetero-male' part of the fest is going to come across as weird.
and I agree with what she said to an extent regarding gender as a genre, if she performs as chairlift are they on it?
They released the lineup like that to call bull shit on the people who say diverse groups are underrepresented at other festivals because there aren't enough diverse musicians. They probably should have informed the artists how they were going to present the initial lineup, but maybe they did. I doubt the Moog organizers were dealing directly with Caroline when booking her. Maybe her agent just didn't think it was a big deal?
I don't get what she's so furious about to be honest, seems like she wants attention.
