UCF ain't getting in if the top three win out. It'll be Michigan/Ohio State or Oklahoma if they don't lose.
Im aware that it wont happen, but IMO it should. Michigan had its chance against the worst of Bama, Clemson, and ND, and lost.
On the other hand, they'll have a one touchdown loss to the #3 team at the beginning of the season against them but two victories against top 15 teams and two more against Northwestern (who is currently top 25). UCF has one top 25 win and almost lost to Memphis. Their conference championship will be over a team outside the top 25.
If Michigan's loss was later in the season or Notre Dame wrecked them, it'd be a different story. This is also going on every team winning out, and that's no guarantee. Even if it does happen, margin of victory is going to mean a ton. For UCF, Oklahoma is probably their bigger worry. To win out, they have to beat West Virginia then (probably) get their revenge against Texas. If they win both, Michigan may even have to look out.

I don’t think it’s good for the watchabiltiy of college football to incentivize never playing anyone with a pulse in non-conference play. Or in conference play for that matter.

Agreed. Conference obligations are a blessing and a curse. Rivalries are the same. Take Clemson for instance. Their rivalry with South Carolina is a big deal for their fans. It's not doing them any favors recently as it takes up one of their nonconference games, and a victory over SC isn't impressive.

I agree with this, but I also think its not good for the sport to show that its only 15 or so teams have a chance to win it all any given year. UCF winning 25 in a row and not having a chance at a title shows that if you arent in one of the power five, you might as well be playing in the FCS

That's just how it is. With 5 power conferences and 4 spots they're never going to put in anyone from a smaller conference. There's just not room for that.

We are just saying that "the way it is" is garbage. Just admit that we are division 2.

UCF scheduled SC State, UNC, Pitt, and FAU in their non-conference. If they want us to pretend they'd have a shot, they need to get better games. I admit that they killed us and looked better than ND did doing it, but it's also tough to do that game with college kids who are unpredictable (unless they play for Saban and are pre-programmed robots).
You want to be big time? Get out of those games against FAU and SC State, and maybe even UNC (and maybe even Pitt!) and schedule as many better games as you can.
They should be trying to get out of the FAMU and FAU games next year and trying to get better games. Saban was just complaining that it's hard to find people to play. There, I scheduled that game for UCF.
You wanna be big time, you need to act like it, not this fake 2017 national champs bullshit.

I believe that it's hard for them to schedule better. No one wants to play them because you can only lose there. If you're a power 5 you don't gain anything by beating them. No one is going to play at UCF and UCF can't go on the road all the time. They're really stuck where they are. The only thing they could do is join a power 5. I'm not sure that's an option either at this point.
Another thing related to this that I'm noticing. The big boys are starting to schedule each other more. Clemson is doing it with series coming up with ND, LSU, Georgia, Texas. Every year for the next 12 years we're playing SC and another huge game. I think one year we have 3 because we play ND as well. If everyone is doing this how are they going to fit in a game with a team like UCF?

UCF is the new Boise State?
Also, Notre Dame has a weird agreement with the ACC where they can be in the conference for everything except football - but still has to play like 4-5 games against ACC opponents every year. So them playing Clemson once every few years really isn't all that special.

I don't buy it. There is always something you can do. There are 65 P5 schools, you have to be able to find 4 of them (really, 2 of them) to play next year. They already are going to Pitt and have Stanford coming to Orlando. Plenty of teams want to recruit in Florida, sell that. Pay whatever. You wanna be big time, start spending the money and stop making excuses.

I cant tell if there are other ucf alums here, but I definitely dont think we should be ranked in the top 4. 7 is probably the ceiling. I just think that college football is a trash sport where a coach can look his team in the eyes before a season and tell them that even if they blow out every opponent for the next two years, they still have 0% chance at a championship. Only sport where this can happen.
We were scheduling these games around the time that we were literally 0-12 three seasons ago. So its not like we knew we'd be 2 schedule changes away from a playoff berth back then.
I think we will end up beating UF or someone just like Auburn last year on Jan 1, but of course any of the top 5 would handle us pretty easily.

I empathize with some of it, and appreciate you see the ceiling of being #7 at best right now.
There's no reason for FAMU and FAU on the schedule next year. Pay whatever to get out of those games and get P5 games on the schedule. Do whatever you have to do. Contracts are no excuse, there's always an out for those.
Good for Kansas. If he can put together a defense I'll bet he can make them Big12 contenders.
His offense was outdated in the offensively challenged SEC. How exactly is he going to keep up with Big XII offenses? This was a terrible hire.
I was mostly just joking bc there's no defense in the big 12 (e.g. Kansas just hung 40 on Oklahoma this weekend).
But from Kansas' perspective this is a huge hire - 2x coach of the year, won a NC and couple of SEC titles. When just getting to a bowl game is huge, Kansas getting a coach as good like Miles is a triumph. I'm sure everyone in Lawrence is stoked right now. Miles held onto Cam Cameron too damn long and that was his downfall. But under Crowton, miles' LSU teams were averaging like 30 pts a game. Kansas is only laying 2.7 mil, so plenty of room to hire a good staff.
Don't see James Franklin succeeding at USC. But what do I know.
Don’t see his path to success in the Big Ten East at this point either.
After the shame of the Helton hiring (hired because the players loved him, yawn), they need to get somebody who will bring back an exciting offense to USC. I'm not sure who that is, because it's not like you're going to be able to pull Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma. The idea of Jack Del Rio, etc. just sounds like them trying to squeeze them to be Pete Carroll. I dunno. As an alum, I've been pretty depressed about SC's underperformance since I graduated back in the mid 2000s.

he's already got a B1G title. lookin like 3 straight years in NY6 bowls. I don't think he's a good football coach in the traditional, X's and O's sense, but if he continues to recruit at an elite level and find top quality assistants, no reason we aren't going to compete for the B1G every year.

If he continues to find a bunch of Joe Moorhead’s to do the coaching for him, then ya, he might luck into some more 2 loss Big Ten titles. But that seems unlikely.
