Interesting for late night. Weird seeing 5 acts all being late night just for Thursday. When you takes those out. Not much actual late night it seems
Looks to be the same model as the last few years. One act per stage/tent for late night. Really excited that Chic isnt late night and won't cause a conflict (now please don't conflict with Rufus)

yeah I was just hoping they would go back to more late night sets. But of course we wouldn’t get that. Happy chic isn’t latenight too. I thought it was gonna be an Earth Wind Fire type deal being latenight and conflicting with stuff I like. Still see them closing out a tent before headliner.. maybe.
Bon Iver (2nd Set) vs Brockhampton is sad but was expected. I'm not sure what to do about this one. I'll definitely catch Bon Iver's first set. If the details of his second set are kept completely a surprise until the festival that makes this decision even harder.

I think it was posted in the subreddit that he was gonna do 22 A Million in full. If that’s the case, it’s no competition for me.

I was fine with that, cause I figured I'd just catch the first Bon Iver set and then do Brockhampton late night, but now I'm worried they are going to put Chic against Bon Iver's first set.

The second set? From the What podcast Ashley Capps made it sound like it'd be a completely unique show.
Saturday: Bon Iver, Kaskade, STS9, BROCKHAMPTON, What So Not
seems like a lot of late night acts for Thursday. what time does bonnaroo consider "late" these days?
Friday is as expected and a bit boring.
Saturday looks pretty good though. Bon Iver second set late is cool. Brockhampton should be a fun throwdown. STS9 is an obvious choice but for good reason, will be a dance party.

The best move would be CHIC > Bon Iver > Bon iver (LN) on Which, with Anderson Paak on What between Chic and BI.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for, and definitely best case scenario.

I want to bring up something about the quantity of "Late Night" acts that I've brought up in the past but didn't get much of a response to. This is going to sound like I am defending Bonnaroo, but really it just depends on what festival variables matter most to you. It also depends on what you like about Late Night sets. Is it because of it being dark outside, because that's when the attendees get more rowdy, or a combination of both?
Pro Bonnaroo Argument: There are still just as many, if not more, sets occurring in the complete dark in 2016-17 as there were in 2013 and before. The only difference is you will go to bed earlier now. In 2013, Roo would begin music on stages in the blistering heat (12:00 pm) and the music would stop for the headliner at 8:30 - 9:30 pm for a 2-3 hour headliner. The other acts would pick back up from 12:30 - 4:00 am. Maybe 9 acts would play after the headliner. However, Wu-Tang Clan closed the which before McCartney as the sun was setting, and maybe went a bit into the dark at 8:15 - 8:30. By halving headliners set times and moving the starting point significantly back (U2 was scheduled to begin at 11:00 at one point), we get sets on all stages from 8:30 - 11:00, and music is able to start at 2:00 -2:30 pm with the same amount of acts in between. In that 8:30 - 11:00 timeframe, we likely get 7-8 additional artists playing in the complete darkness, whereas before you would only get 2-4 (generous, sometimes this was 0) in that same timeframe. Add those 4 extra dark sets to the 5 late night acts and you have an equal amount of acts playing in the dark in 2017 as you did in 2013.
TL;DR pro Bonnaroo argument: We still get the same amount of sets in the Dark, less down time for headliners we don't really care about anyways, get to go to bed earlier, don't have to watch as many sets in the blistering sun.
Anti-Bonnaroo Counter: The way they were able to achieve this was by not only cutting headliners set times, but all set times. Also, the hours of 3-5 am contain that special dose of Roo Magic. It isn't simply about the dark, its about the weird shit people do when they are raging late into the morning. Some people also like there being music earlier in the day... for some reason.
I'm not necessarily saying I am happy with the way things have gone, but I just think this should be considered. I am actually someone who does have a ton of energy and would like to be out all night. I also prefer the longer set times in general.
But if you look at it from a "darkness is what matters" standpoint, my 2018 "dark schedule" will likely be the following:
Friday: Sunset Denzel Curry -> Rufus Du Sol -> Muse -> Chromeo -> End of Superjam
Saturday: Sunset Sylvan Esso -> Chic or Anderson Paak or Bon Iver -> Eminem -> Bon Iver or Brockhampton

Watching the sunrise in 2010 as The Disco Biscuits came back on to play an encore at like 5:30 am is a personal Roo highlight. Nowadays the stage would be closed for hours by that time.

I think it’s fair to say that Old Bonnaroo has more LN than it really needed, some of those 3-4am tents were ghost towns and I’ve heard artists hated playing them. But knowing that if you wanted to there was something worth seeing around the clock was great.
Maybe the barns will be a suitable replacement. I guess we’ll see.

You make good points.
I've also argued that the shortening of sets is likely more a factor of current live show norms than any big decision on Bonnaroo's part. Most non-headliner acts don't have a set prepared to fill 90-120 minute, and would be unlikely to put one together just for the one festival where they are given that much time. When bonnaroo was more jammy, sure, give Gov't Mule 90 minutes, they'll fill it up no problem, but most non-jambands have this fixed tour setlist they are going to play and when it's done it's done.
