Damnit reddit, that left side of What should've been kept secret. I've noticed that people get so lazy when walking from the tents/Which that once they get in the What area that all just stay on the right side. In 2013 me and 4 friends showed up late for Tom Petty and still got into the left side pit. And there was room for plenty more.

I think most people who are into Bonnaroo enough to browse the subreddit regularly already know about the left side.

To clarify, I don't think that Eminem-The Killers-Muse appeals to "the kids", but i think that trio goes hard trying to appeal to people my age or a little older (I'm 28). I think that's really their target demo at this point. They can still sell some of the kids with the Other lineup and maybe their older sisters and brothers' reverence for those headliners, as well as just a party atmosphere.
I don't think ticket sales are up because they booked Pond and Broken Social Scene, just for example.
The one big glaring Omission is the lack of metal on the lineup. I thought they might try to sneak one act in there at the last minute but nope.
Yeah, man, unfortunately that shit has been dead following 2015. Shame, because as far as I remember, there were plenty of folks at Between the Buried and Me, Pallbearer, and Slayer that year.
When neither Lamb of God (cheese metal) nor Claypool Lennon Delirium (not metal, but a band metalheads would catch) were late night and would clearly conflict, it was apparent that Metalroo was no more. It really sucks, because that was one of the more unique and beautiful aspects of peak Roo.

I'm surprised the attendance is better than last year. Gives me a little hope for the future.
I think it makes sense. The lineup is definitely better overall + they've done a really good job advertising all the new experiences and what not. Also, in general, their social media presence has been impressive, which I'm has had something to do with it. That said, I expected a less significant jump. 76K is a legitimately solid number, not just a step in the right direction. That much I'm surprised by.

I totally agree that the lineup is better overall. I'm just surprised that the masses do as well. Last year was a wet dream for a frat party dj.
I think the key is that the "masses" are going to go regardless as long as you give them Future, Bassnectar, Killers, etc. There is a point of major diminishing returns I imagine when you overload a lineup directed squarely towards that crowd. I think they still kept that crowd while getting back some of the die-hard music fans.
Could it also be that music festivals are still very trendy at the moment, despite the fact that lineups have gone down in quality? Like this year's Bonnaroo isn't anywhere close to the Bonnaroo lineups in the past. But there's also not a lot of better options this year.

Weren't music festival's trendy last year and the year before?

Weren't music festival's trendy last year and the year before?
Yeah but I think there were better options those years. Like in 2016 Bonnaroo's lineup took a nose dive while most other festivals were still fine. Basically people still want to go to music festivals, and Bonnaroo is one of the better options this year.

Right so festival trendiness isn't what you're getting at then. I think what we are trying to figure out here is why the masses believe Bonnaroo is one of the better options this year.

Not saying that this was a massive factor in Roo doing better, but they definitely made the smart move booking the Killers/Muse over Jack White. Jack just doesn't have that kind of draw where casual festival goers would get excited over. But everyone wants to sing along to Mr. Brightside and Uprising.
And it looks like Jack's day at Lolla is still on sale. Don't they usually sell out day of the onsale?

Lolla ticket sales have been pretty slow this year, and I believe last year the day with Arcade Fire and Justice took a while to sell out too.
This noob just won VIP passes, plane tickets and fancy camping. Feels like the coolest thing I've ever done.
I'm hoping for some lineup help, since there's a ton of acts I don't know, and I'm coming to this late. I'm planning to see the headliners, Sturgill, Sheryl Crow, Revivalists, Chic, Moon Taxi, OCMS, Manchester Orchestra, Trombone Shorty, St. Paul, Durand Jones, Spafford, Ron Gallo, The War and Treaty and the Regrettes.
What else on the lineup fits with those? Y'know, with like guitars and stuff?

I've never actually heard of someone winning one of those all expenses paid festival contests, congrats! How'd you do it?
Looks like you have a good list already, you'll have a blast I'm sure. Sunscreen, water, if you drink wait until it gets dark so you don't blow your late nights.

I just entered online. It was through iheartradio, and you could enter once a day. I probably had 8-10 entries. Feels miraculous though--I enter these things all the time, and like you I wondered if real people ever won.
